All present guests burst into a loud applause when Elena stepped up on the podium, stood behind the microphone and gave them an unsure smile. She cleared her throat nervously and then she took out a piece of paper on which her speech was written. She took a deep breath and she began.
'All of you probably know that my parents died in a car accident. I lost my mom on that day, which is something so terrible and sad that I wouldn't want any of you to have to go through it.' She made a pause and she wiped up a tear that had dropped out of her eye inconspicuously. 'With my brother Jeremy,' she sent a smile in his direction, 'we suddenly had a feeling that we were alone. But we weren't. We had Jenna.' She looked at her aunt with eyes brimming with gratitude. Jenna was sniffling into a silk handkerchief. 'Jenna came and she took care of us, of us living a good life. She lived with us, she tried to help us solve all those complicated emotions and problems that teenagers struggle with,' she laughed, 'and she gave up many things for us, just so that we could be happy. Jenna came and saved us. Thank you, Jenna.' Jenna sent her a kiss and then she, overwhelmed by emotion, she buried her head into Alaric's shoulder. 'And then, when we were OK, it was time for someone to come and save Jenna, make her happy and take care of her, just like she did that for us. And he came. And even though it's a bit weird when your aunt dates your History teacher,' grinned Elena, 'it's actually a miracle and huge luck that these two have found each other. I hope that they'll live their lives side by side as a satisfied couple and that even after long years, there will be as much love for each other in their eyes as there is today.' Elena took a glass of champagne from an assistant and she raised it in celebration. 'To Jenna and Alaric.'
The guests did the same and they repeated: 'To Jenna and Alaric.'
While people were clapping their hands, Elena ran down from the podium, right into Klaus Mikaelson's arms.
'A charming speech,' he appreciated her.
'Thanks,' she howled. She wasn't sure whether she wanted to talk to him now.
'Elena, look at me please,' Klaus asked her in a tired voice and she did what he asked. 'I love you, isn't that obvious?'
'I don't want you to kill someone just to prove that to me.'
'It won't happen again.'

Elena trusted him just partly.
'Can you give me at least one pleasant dance?' asked Klaus.
'Well, I could do that,' nodded Elena, she intertwined her arm with his and let him lead her right into the middle of the dance floor. When he wrapped his arm around her waist, tingling went through her whole body. They span around the hall and she fixed her eyes, still a bit red from her speech, on him. 'Klaus?' she breathed out when the song was almost ending.
'Yes, love?'
'Is it OK that I didn't say it back? That I love you?'

He pulled her closer and he smiled. 'It's OK, love. We'll manage.'
The song ended and Elena was sorry that it did. Klaus read that in her face, so he asked her for one more dance. In the end, they stayed on the dance floor until the band stopped playing. And the longer they danced, the more the wall between them tumbled down and Elena was getting back to the state of being completely mesmerized by Klaus.
