Though she didn't want Klaus to follow her, deep down she felt a bit sorry that he didn't do it. As if he really had lost his interest in her. But wasn't she supposed to be excited about that? Now she could stay in Mystic Falls without worrying whether he would bother her or not.
She left for the restroom to check her reflection in the mirror. She was just pulling out a lipstick from her purse when the door flew open and Bonnie entered with a worried look. 'I saw you dancing with Klaus. Are you all right?'
'Totally,' responded Elena in a firm voice and she put on a layer of bright lipstick. Originally, she wanted to wear red lipstick, but then it reminded her of blood too much. Actually, she completely stopped wearing red lipstick. At least in the moments when she wasn't feeding, she wanted to feel like a human being, not like someone with human blood just stuck on their lips. 'I'm great, thanks, Bonnie.'

'I'm glad. Forget about him, he's a bastard. As soon as you ran away, that stupid model walked up to him and they disappeared together.'

Against her will, it hurt Elena's feelings. 'They did?' she said as casually as possible, but a little tear sparkled in her eye. 'They can eat each other with love, I don't care about him anymore.'
Bonnie smiled at her upliftingly. 'That's what I wanted to hear. Let's go, we'll get back before Jenna starts looking for you. You know that you have to give that speech.'
'Damn it. I don't know if I can do it.' Elena put her lipstick back into her purse and she leant her head to the side. 'How do I look?'
'Beautiful,' her friend winked at her, she grabbed her hand and lead her back to the party. 'Let's go.'
Of course, they had to bump into Klaus and his new girlfriend. Elena stopped.
'Here you are,' Klaus said with satisfaction. 'I want to show you something.'
'Your stunning and devilish gilfriend, nice,' muttered Elena, pretending to be completely unaffected by that.
'No, not that,' Klaus shook his head. He turned the other vampire so that they were standing face to face and with one abrupt move he ripped her heart out of her chest, after which she slid down on the ground, dead. Bonnie and Elena gasped for breath. Klaus victoriously grasped her heart in his hand and then he carelessly dropped it on the floor. 'I've never cared about her heart. I've only ever cared about yours, Elena.'
Elena understood that it was supposed to be a romantic declaration of love in Klaus Mikaelson's style. She wasn't sure if she liked it because she was way too paralysed. 'I've g-gotta go,' she stuttered in the end. 'I have a speech.'
She brushed by Klaus and the dead corpse and she ran back to the hall.
