Part 50

A couple months passed and Elena still didn't return to Mystic Falls, neither did she plan it. But she missed her family, so she invited Jeremy over for a visit. However, he had to promise that he wouldn't tell anyone that he was going there and that he wouldn't share her address with anyone. Elena was afraid that Klaus could come over. Although she believed that if he wanted, he would find her anyway, she didn't want to tease him unnecessarily.
As soon as Jeremy got there, Elena basically jumped into his arms. Seeing her dear brother lifted her mood.
'Just don't squeeze the soul out of me,' joked Jer, but of course, he was also glad that he finally reunited with his older sister. 'I've missed you.'

'And I've missed you.'
It was cloudy outside, but Elena was in the mood for a walk, so they set out on a walk along the river.
'How do you like it here?' she asked Jeremy.
'It's nice,' he shrugged and he shoved his hands into his pockets because they were starting to freeze.
'It's cold, isn't it? I didn't realise, sorry... We can go to our place or to a café or something...'
'Elena, don't freak out,' laughed Jeremy. 'It's cool.'
And so they kept on walking. Elena pumped Jeremy about news from Mystic Falls, about Bonnie and Caroline, Matt, Jenna and Alaric. She intentionally skipped asking about Klaus and both Salvatore brothers because those three were the reason why it wasn't an option for her yet to return to Mystic Falls. But then Jeremy came up with some big news.
'I should keep this a secret, but you'll have to come to Mystic Falls sooner or later,' said Jer as if he were capable of reading her mind.
'Why?' Elena raised her eyebrows. 'Is something wrong?' she got scared. 'Is somebody dying?'
'No, nobody's dying' Not at all, it's something much more pleasant...'
'So spill it already!' Elena was burning with curiosity and she was also praying that the shocking news would include neither of the Salvatores, nor any of the Mikaelsons. 
'Jenna and Rick are getting married!' Jeremy announced.
'Woooow! That's... that's amazing!' Elena was sincerely happy about it. 'And when?'
'In June. They want to have nice weather.'
There were a few months left until June, but it still frightened Elena. She wasn't sure whether she was ready to return.
'You can't miss your own aunt's and a good friend's wedding, now can you?' Jeremy really must have been able to read her mind.
'Of course not! I'll be there!'
Elena's tone was much more convinced than how she was feeling. She appeased Jeremy, but she didn't quite completely appease herself. 
Wow. June. She was hoping that she would stay here for at least three years before she would show up in Mystic Falls again. But Jeremy was right. She simply had to come to the wedding.
She had no other choice than to mentally prepare for that.
