Sam's POV
"Well that was intense" Jimmy, Hunter and I were walking along the foreshore. It was still really warm.
"Yeah, not quite what I was expecting?" Jimmy went on to explain. "It's always the ones who seem like they've got it so together that are under the most pressure."
"Yeah, but Jimmy there has to be balance. Otherwise, everything falls a part." Hunter added. "You can't just eat avocados."
I giggled. Hunter was so sincerely funny at times, I doubt she even knew the effect she had on people.
"Yeah well you and Dean are going to make quite the couple." Jimmy cheekily replied.
"Yeah, I think we'll work out ok." Hunter smiled.
"He's been keen on you for a while, so be nice."
"Jimmy, when am I not nice?" Hunter had a point. She always saw the positive in everyone and everything. Dean was a cool kid and they'd actually work well together. Funny thing is I could always see them being a couple.
"So what about you two." Hunter pointed to Jimmy and I.
"What do you mean?" I played silly because I wanted to know what she thought of us as a couple.
"C'mon, there's unfinished heat between the two of you. I feel like the third wheel right now and want to run for the hills." She smiled right at me.
"Yeah, you're right. I definitely have unfinished business with Sam, but I'm also a gentleman who'd never ask another girl to leave." Jimmy kept walking.
"So you do admit you have feelings for Sam?" Hunter further enquired.
"I'd be keen to get to know Sam more, but I also know that Sam is a Caves Beach girl and I am a Swansea boy from a shitty family. We're chalk and cheese." Jimmy shrugged. "And, maybe that's the attraction. Good girl and bad boy!"
"So why do you think that matters to me?" I asked Jimmy directly stopping in my tracks.
He stopped walking and turned towards me. "Because we're too different. I don't know your world and you don't know mine. So in the end it'll end badly."
"So you have this already worked out in your head. What will happen?" Hunter was trying to get Jimmy to further communicate.
"Things will be fine for a few weeks. We'll kiss, and more, we'll hang out together and with our friends. But eventually, she'll ask me over for dinner to meet the folks and that will be our first problem. They'll hate me. They won't want me with Sam. Then I'll just avoid Sam coming to my place because my Dad is an alcoholic who doesn't deserve to be 10ft in her presence. So between her parents putting pressure on her to do better and my lack of family values it won't last 3 months." Jimmy looked right into my eyes.
"Really? So there's no use having any sort of relationship? Is that why you usually prefer one night stands?" I put my hands on my hips ready for an argument.
"Yes. Less complication, less attachment and less disappointment on their part when they realise they just wasted months on a bum like me." Jimmy's reply shocked me. I never looked at it from that perspective.
"I'm sorry." I have no idea why that just came out.
"Sam, I don't need your pity or anyone else's." Jimmy was angry and stormed off.
I looked at Hunter.
"Just let him cool off, then go to him. He's complex but he needs someone to love him unconditionally." Hunter smiled.
Could I be that person?
I had a really wonderful childhood. My parents were always supportive of everything I did. Things came easy to me. I generally had everything I wanted. But would they support Jimmy being my boyfriend?
After a few minutes without realising my feet took me to Jimmy who was sitting on top of a rock looking out at a the ocean.
"It's so beautiful." I was looking at the view.
"It is." Jimmy murmured.
"Can I sit?" I had no idea if he wanted me around right now so best to ask.
"It's your life." He gruffly answered.
"So, was I just going be be just another conquest tonight, another notch on the belt?" I had to know.
"Yes." He was still looking at the ocean.
"Ok. I get it. I never saw it from your eyes before. I'm a princess, you're right, I have everything that I materially want. I'm spoilt in your eyes."
"No you're not. It's just I don't get those things, so it's not like you're the odd one out here I am." He retorted. "Everyone else gets iPhones, cars, it's just me that will never get that start. If I don't get it for myself I just won't get to have it." I let him speak.
"You know the last time I got a present from my Dad?"
I shook my head.
"I was 8 years old and he brought in a present for my birthday. I remember being so excited. It was a rectangle box wrapped in newspaper. I ran over and hugged my Dad, I opened it and you know what it was?"
Again I shook my head.
"Ha... it was a box of beer. He said in 10 years time you'll be able to enjoy this present. But for now I'll put it in the fridge." Jimmy's voice cracked a little. "He drank the entire box that night."
I had no idea what to do, so I got a little closer to him and placed my arm on his shoulder.
"Told you Sam, I don't want your pity." He sounded so broken.
"Pity because what if I want you." I looked directly into his eyes and leaned down placing a kiss on his amazing luscious lips. He grabbed me closer, the heat between us was amazing. I'd never experienced anything so intense with anyone. Right now, I'd let him do just about anything to me. But as luck would have it, we were interrupted by a scream ....
