________________________________Abby's POV
We all broke off again after what happened with Ethan. Dean was going to confirm back if the money was still inside the albums.
I was sitting down on the shoreline watching the waves roll in. It was really calming and soothing. The sounds of the water rolling on shore, the smell of the salt in the air. It was nice.
Matt had come by my side. "Can I sit?"
"Of course Matt. I was just mesmerised and went into another realm." I giggled.
"You looked at peace." He smiled my way.
"Yeah. I really was. So have you decided what course you're doing at Uni?" I wanted to know a little more about Matt. Clearly, he was interested in me and knew a great deal through Connor but besides what everyone else knew about him I knew little more.
"Yeah. But ... ." He scratched the back of his head. "My parents want me to do Business Law then eventually take over the family company."
"And this is something that doesn't interest you right?" I was pretty obvious he hesitated around the question. "Don't answer that. So Matt, if you could choose what you wanted to do, what would it be?"
He brightly smiled at me. His eyes becoming alive. "That's easy I actually want to be a sports physio. Eventually look after teams once I get a reputation and maybe travel around the country going to all the games."
"That would be awesome. So can I ask why can't you?"
His head went down and his hands fisted on his sides. "The family business has been I. Operation for generations and my father doesn't want me to be the one who breaks the mould. He is insistent that I follow in his footsteps whilst I'm under his roof."
"What Uni will you be attending?" I was obvious he had no choice in the matter, that sucked.
"Sydney University of course. Only the oldest and most prestige."
"So you'd commute or live there?"
"We own a block of units in Manly so I'd ferry and bus it every day." He explained.
"Where is the course you want to attend?"
"Newcastle University. Believe or not it's supposed to be the best in the country and has strong links to John Hunter. You get so much hands on experience through this course."
Poor Matt, he lit up when he talked about what it was he wanted to be doing. It wasn't far he'd never get the chance to do it.
"So, what would happen if you choose what you wanted to do?" It was perhaps obvious, but I still wanted to know.
"Dad refuses to pay for my education. He said he won't provide a cent and I'd have to pay it off." He was kicking the rock as he spoke. "I'd probably have to find a place to live because I couldn't stand to be the disappointment in the house."
"Matt, can I make a suggestion." He looked up into my eyes.
"Go ahead."
"Do what makes you happy. There will always be share accomodation you know so many people and I bet they'll want to move out of home and grab an apartment. I'll be paying my way if I make it into Uni. It's no big deal we got this.
It's better to be happy in the long run and make short term sacrifices than to make long term sacrifices and never experience happiness again. Going through what I did made me realise, there are so many options and choices. If someone takes an option that hurts me I shouldn't be expected to stay there and allow it. We are empowered to make our life our own." I grabbbed his hand and he pulled me into his chest.
"Always be in my life Abby. Even if it's just as friends, you're really a good person."
Tears started streaming down my eyes. "No, I'm not because everyone always ends up leaving me."
Matt whispered in my ear. "I promise, I won't."
I was feeling so emotional right now, he made me feel whole again. I hadn't felt like this for a while. I don't know why or how it happened, but I lent down and latched onto Matt's lips.
