Matt's POV
"Always be in my life Abby. Even if it's just as friends, you're really a good person." I hated seeing how much she self loathed.
Tears started streaming down her eyes. "No, I'm not, because everyone always ends up leaving me."
I couldn't believe she said that, I softly whispered in her ear. "I promise, I won't."
I looked directly into Abby's eyes and I felt whole and complete. I don't know why or how it happened, but she lent in latching onto my lips. I eagerly responded, but was overthinking that she'd soon push me off because this was a big mistake to her, but she didn't.
Eventually she broke off the kiss then she cuddled into me. "Matt, you're everything that's good and right in this world. You're perfect. I don't think there's anyone who is good enough to be with you."
"Seriously, is that how you see me?" Perfect, me? I was anything but perfect.
"You're known as Mr Perfect around school."
Wow, I had to take this in, me, perfect. I just laughed so hard, I found it hilarious.
Jimmy, Sam and Hunter came over.
"What's so funny Matt?" Jimmy asked.
"Me, Mr Perfect?"
Tyler and Natalia had also joined us.
"Yeah you Buddy. You're like Mr Congeniality. You've never been an arse to get your way, you're always fair when it comes to sport and competition, yet you always seem to win." Jimmy explained why people saw him in this light.
"Guys, I'm anything but perfect. I'm confined like a prisoner in my own life. I don't get to make any choices. Did you know that I didn't even pick my subjects? My Father organised what Uni courses I'd attend and what he wants me to do after I graduate. I get no say, not even what flavour Birthday cake or my guest list. And if I speak up, I get ignored, told I'll have to move out or I'll lose my inheritance. I am controlled and have to behave in a certain manner all the time."
"So do you think that's why your sister also sexually rebelled?" Jimmy asked. Abby looked a little shocked at the question. In fact everyone did.
"So you know Jimmy? How?" I wanted to know what the rumours were around school.
"Ok, so she got dared to kiss a girl during a game of spin the bottle. It was actually Tom's 18th party so I was in and out of the spare room cause I was staying over that night. When I went back into the spare room they were really going for it in the bed, so I just closed the door."
"Being bi-sexual isn't always a way of rebelling. She maybe sexually oriented in such a way." Hunter made a good point.
"Listen, my Dad drinks too much and carries on. I know he's done some really horrible stuff to me. I unconditionally loved him as a child. I kinda knew it was wrong, cause he knew how to verbally and physically hurt me. But as I'm now an adult, he can't get away with his shit. I'm moving out after school ends this year and going to get an apartment and start living the life I deserve. I have some work lined up labouring and I want to go to tafe and do a carpenter course. I just don't even want to end up like him."
"Being like your parents isn't always a failure but you need to take the good parts you've learnt from them and remove the negative. Become the best person you can be." Hunter was always able to simplify things so nicely.
"Yeah so true Hunter. I like that." Abby smiled at her.
"No one here is perfect. We just have to be the best people we can." Sam summed it up.
"It's nice to know you guys are my friends. It means a whole lot to know I know good genuine people. I've had so many people who use me to get them here or there, or they pretend they know me to get what they want. A true friend doesn't use you they give to you.
Hunter, you touched me so much tonight when you gave me that gift. I haven't had a great deal of contact with you, we've been in different social circles, but you are a genuinely sweet, sincere, and a level headed young lady. Dean's so lucky to have you. He's a good guy and I know he'll treat you like a princess."
"Thank you Matt. There are so many rumours about all of us at school. But just know I never listen to any of them because I prefer to trust my own instinct and judgement. Your are all great people."
"Jimmy, people think you're wild and crazy, you'll just end up like your Dad or in gaol. But all your actions tonight have shown me you'll never end up like him. You're honest, street smart and full of integrity. And your the kind of guy I'd honestly want to take to meet my parents."
Jimmy's face lit up. "I'd be proud to meet your parents any day Sam."
"All of us have a story to tell and we have our own history, but it's who we are going to be that will make the difference. Tonight at the start of the party, we were just people but by the end of this we're going to be friends." Abby smiled at me and picked up my hand.
"It's been such a great night." I was beaming.
Tyler's mobile rung and everyone looked to him.
