In that split second, everything was silent. No one made a peep. The door opened slowly at first and the sun flooded in and illuminated our faces. It was so silent and peaceful that I almost forgot about where I was and I just took the moment in. Silence. I hadn't used that word in such a long time. Mostly, my life had been hectic and crazy, either being yelled at, attempting to be killed, or someone was screaming in agony. That was one of the first times in my life that was complete silence. It was almost hard to just take in the silence and let it sit there. Then, that split second ended and everything went back to chaos. "Go!" Hakoda yelled. Everyone ran out the circular door an out onto the beach. I ran with them, out into the bright sunlight and I had to shield my eyes. It almost felt odd, a small girl like me, running with soldiers. I looked all around. Next to us was another platoon of Water-Tribe men. But wait...something was emerging from another door in the subs. Tanks! Hidden caterpillar tanks with the symbol of the Earth-Kingdom carved onto it. Everything was so crazy and so thrilling. Suddenly, ear-rattling booms filled the air and nearly made me jump out of my skin. "Soldiers!" someone yelled. I craned my neck to try and get a look. In front of us was a huge platoon of Fire-Nation soldiers. I was a little afraid, but only a little. The adrenaline was so intoxicating that it didn't matter that they had Komodo-Rhinos and projectiles-wait...Komodo-Rhinos and projectiles? Yep, we're screwed. Anyway, the soldiers launched several projectiles into our crowd, knocking several soldiers to the ground. I healed as many as I could when suddenly, another projectile was launched and landed dangerously close to us. I looked up just in time to see another projectile land right in front of me. I was knocked to the ground and everything was hazy for a moment. My vision blurred and I couldn't hear for a split second. Then I snapped back to reality. There's a war going on here, I thought irritably. My head seemed a little lighter. I put a hand on my head only to realize my helmet had gotten blasted off. I looked around for my helmet and saw a beat up hunk of metal beside me. I groaned and said, "Fine. I don't need it anyway." "Dad!" I heard Sokka yell. "Look out!" I looked over to see Hakoda stop a projectile with his shield. A soldier charged at Hakoda but he knocked the spear out of his hand. I looked back in front of me just in time to see another soldier charging at me with his sword drawn. In a split second, I had pulled out my whip and with a flip of my arm, I had my whip wrapped around the hilt of his sword. I pulled the whip back, taking the sword with it. With my other hand, I encased him in a mound of earth. I picked up my new weapon. "Thanks for the sword," I said cockily as I left him there.
More projectiles were coming in but not from the land. I looked up at the side of the cliff and saw little shacks with missile-launchers sticking out. "Sokka!" I yelled. He looked over at me and I pointed up to the cliff. He nodded and turned to Hakoda. "We've got to take out those battlements," Hakoda said. "It's our only chance!" "I've got an idea," Sokka said.
Sokka's idea was simple; Take out the darn battlements. But his way of executing that plan was actually rather genius; a sneak attack (no he would not be yelling sneak attack at the top of his lungs) we'd sneak into the battlements and disarm the weapons in any way possible. He called down Appa, who was being steered by Katara, and the four of us, Katara, me, Sokka, and Hakoda, all flew up to the cliff. "You and Katara take out that one," he said to Sokka. "Tatiana and I will take out this one. Watch each other's backs!" They nodded and ran off as I followed Hakoda into the little shack. I shoved open the metal door and was bombarded by several soldiers. It was all I could do not to pass out from the adrenaline. One guard knocked me over with his elbow, throwing me against the wall. Before he could raise his hand, I had encased them in ice as well as his feet. I quickly stood up and started disarming the missile when another guard tried to stab me from behind. As quick as an eagle-cat, I grabbed the sword I swiped from the other guard and started sword fighting with the other guard. Suddenly, Hakoda clonked that guard on the head with his sword and nodded towards me. I set back to work disarming the missile when suddenly, the first guard had melted the ice around his hands and feet and tried to attack me again but Hakoda got to me first, trying to fend him off so I could keep working. Hakoda shoved the soldier off and pushed him to the other side of the room. My eyes were locked on the complicated projectile, so many gears and complicated mechanics. I decided to just freeze it, activate it and run before it exploded. But as I was freezing the circuitry, I heard an agonizing cry coming from the other side of the room."Hakoda!" I screamed. Too late. The soldier had burned Hakoda, leaving a nasty wound in his side. The guard ran at me again, but this time I was ready. I raised my sword and my whip, used the whip to swipe the sword from his hand, froze him to the wall, froze the missile, grabbed Hakoda and shouldered him out of the battlement. We stepped out into the sunlight and saw Sokka and Katara standing there. "Dad!" Katara screamed. They ran over to us and I laid Hakoda, who was clutching his side, down on the ground. Katara and I started to heal him. "How does that feel, Dad?" She asked. He grunted in pain. "A little better," he moaned. He tried to sit up. "I... need to get back... to the troops." "You're hurt," said Katara. "Badly." "Katara," Hakoda grunted. "Everyone's... counting on me... to lead this mission. I won't... let them down." "Can't you heal him any faster?!" Sokka asked frantically. "We're doing everything we can!" Katara answered. Sokka was silent for a moment before saying, "I'll do it." "No offense, Sokka," said Katara. "But you're not exactly Mr. Healing Hands." "No," said Sokka, standing up. "I'll lead the invasion force." I looked at him in disbelief. "Don't be crazy, Sokka," said Katara. "Maybe I am a little crazy," he said. "But the eclipse is about to start and we need to be up at the volcano when it happens." Hakoda sat up a little bit. "You can do this," he said quietly, a little moan still left in his voice. "I'm proud of you, son." Katara looked up at her brother and said, "I still think you're crazy. But I'm proud of you too." I stood up. "You need me?" I asked. "I got this," Katara said. "Go." Sokka and I ran towards Appa. "Yip yip!" he said. Appa flapped his tail and started to fly.
We landed back with rest of our platoon. Sokka stood up and said, "Listen up. I want the tanks in wedge formation. Warriors and benders in the middle. We're taking out that tower." He pointed at a tower off in the distance. "And heading for the royal palace." I jumped down from Appa and joined the rest of the troops. Sokka stayed at the head with Appa. I ran beside Toph and Geo. "How's it going?" I asked casually. "Just great," answered Geo, equally casual. We all gathered into our formation as Sokka yelled, "Charge!" We all started running as Sokka and Appa flew into the air. We made our way up the volcano to the capital. We sent a barrel of explosives hurtling at the wall. It collided with a huge explosion. Fire-Nation guards started to throw blasts of fire at the tanks but it didn't affect the them at all. Realizing that it was hopeless, they started to retreat. "They're falling back!" a soldier yelled. "No duh!" said Geo. Appa flew over and landed near Bato. Sokka stuck his head out from the saddle and looked at Bato for the report. ''Sokka," he said, "we're on our way to victory!"
