We flew for several hours and we finally landed on a remote island and pitched the tents and started a camp fire. "Wow," said Aang, breaking the awkward silence. "camping. It seems like old times." We all nodded silently. "If you really want it to be like old times," Zuko said. "I could chase you around and try to capture you." We all started to laugh, except for me and Katara. "Ha ha," said Katara sourly. I looked down at the biscuit in my hand and said nothing. Sokka stood up and raised his glass. "To Zuko." Why are we toasting him? I thought bitterly. "Who knew after all those times he tried to snuff us out that today, he'd be our hero?" All of us except for me and Katara raised their glasses and said, "Here here." Oh brother, I thought. "I'm touched." said Zuko, smiling warmly. "I don't deserve this." "Yeah, no kidding." Katara said as she stood up and walked away angrily. "What's with her?" Sokka asked. "I wish I knew." said Zuko. He stood up and started after her. "What's with him?" Sokka asked, confused. "Who cares?" I said. "If they want to go off and argue, just let them." Everyone stared at me awkwardly. "Okay," said Sokka, attempting to make the situation less awkward. "I have a ghost story." We all groaned.
Later that night, we were all in our tents, except for me...and except for Zuko. I was sitting outside reading when he passed by. "Where do you think you're going?" I asked sourly. "None of your business." "And why isn't it?" I asked cooly. "I thought you didn't want to bother with my type." He said sternly as he walked away. "Ugh," I said. "The nerve of him!" "What on earth do you have against him?" I heard a voice say. I turned around to see Geo, Suki, and Toph standing by my tent. For some odd reason, Suki was blushing harder than anyone I'd ever seen. Strange. Anyway, they all looked at me. "I think the better question is why don't you hate him?" I said sourly. "I mean, he apparently tried to kill Aang multiple times, he nearly killed me, he completely betrayed us-" "That's all in the past and he's sorry for it." Suki defended. "You haven't given him as many chances as I have." "Actually," said Geo. "I have." "Huh?" I said. "I've traveled with Zuko for at least two and a half years. I've seen him do horrible things and show no remorse for it." "Well, that's a shock." I said sarcastically. "He was bad right from the start." "That's not my point and you know it!" snapped Geo. "My point is, he's sorry and you're just too hotheaded to forgive him!" I looked at them. "I'm going to bed." I said, closing the book. "You can't just keep ignoring him!" Geo called. "Oh yeah?" I said. "Just watch me!" "You can't just keep on like that, especially when he's asking for forgiveness." "He should have thought of that before he left." I went into my tent and shut the flap. "Geez!" I said. "Is that what he drove me to? Ugh! I wish I'd never met him!"
When I woke up, everyone else was walking around seeming annoyed with everyone. Suki seemed really embarrassed and peeved about something, Aang was looking really groggy like he woke up early, Sokka was looking as embarrassed as Suki was and they wouldn't look at each other, Geo and Toph stayed up extra late causing mischief and now they were both tired and cranky. The worst of all were Katara and Zuko. They wouldn't even look at each other. I went over to Katara and asked, "Okay, what happened between you and hothead?" Katara rolled her eyes and said, "Zuko came to me last night and he said he knew who killed my mom." "Why are you mad at him for that?" I asked. "We're going to find him...and I'll get my revenge." I had honestly never heard the word "revenge" come out of Katara's mouth. I wasn't exactly sure I'd heard correctly. "What?" "We're going to find the man who killed my mother." Okay, I was sure I'd heard correctly. "You're kidding me, right?" Katara shook her head angrily. "Okay," I said. "You need to calm down. Revenge is not the way to go. I couldn't get revenge on the man who killed my mother even if I wanted to. The point is, revenge isn't the only option, but it's definitely the worst option. Please reconsider." "You don't understand." Katara said. Here we go again, I thought. "Yes I do. I've been so mad at Ozai for killing my parents and ruining my life. And you know what? I had the chance to kill him. He knew it and I knew it. But I didn't. And for that, I had eight days in prison. It would have been more but...you know. If I had killed him, I would have been executed for treason. There's always a consequence. Please, reconsider. You're my friend and I don't want you getting hurt or killed or...like Ozai." "What do you mean by that?" Katara asked. "Power-hungry and revenge seeking. Kill one person out of revenge, there's bound to be someone else. Kill one person, and you can't stop." Katara sighed. "I have to do this." "No you don't." I retorted. "You never have to do anything that causes you to take someone else's life." "Even if that person has taken a life?" "Even then." She cringed. "Sorry, that's not how I work." Then she turned on her heels and walked away.
I woke up late then next morning. When I came out of the tent, Zuko and Katara were gone. "Where's Zuko and Katara?" I asked. Aang, who was eating a biscuit, looked at the ground. "They went to find the man who killed Katara's and Sokka's mom." I face palmed. Guess she didn't take my advice after all. I thought.
