Melanie sat alone at the house with Daisy waiting for Ian to get home. She herd his car pull into the drive way. He walked in the door and Daisy galloped up to meet him. “Hi Daisy,” he pat her on the head. “Mel!” he called. “In here!” she called from the couch. He walked in and laughed at her. She sat with her legs crossed doing some sort of Lamaze Yoga. “What are you doing?” He asks. “This is supposed to jump start labor ok?” She says taking in a deep breath. Melanie was overdue and sick of it. He helped her up. “Maybe this will help.” He says jokingly as his kisses her for a long time. “Wow,” she says. “I think it might of.” She says. “Ok,” he says sarcastically. “No babe I’m serious,” She says. “I just had a contraction.” She says laughing. “Holy shit,” Ian says. “You’re serious?” he says. She nods. “I’ll go get your bag.” He rushes off to the bedroom

“I still can’t believe that did it.” He says. “Yeah babe,” She says at the beginning of a contraction. “I’m sorry.” He takes her hand and breathes with her through it. “I’ve been at this for 6 hours,” she says laying back on the head board. “You’re being a real fighter.” He says. “Shut up.” She says. “I’m sorry, jeez.” Ian says sitting back in his chair. “I’m sorry I’m just sick of this.” She says. “It’s ok, I know it’s a lot.” He says.

Three hours later Melanie is exhausted. Ian is tired too, but tries not to show it. The doctor comes in. “9 hours, you’re a trooper.” She says. Melanie nods. “Well, all that service has paid off soldier, it’s time to start pushing. She smiles and nods.

She pushes for an hour before finally. After all her hard work and waiting, a cry rings through the ring. “It’s a boy!” The doctor yells. Melanie starts to bawl tears of joy. And though he will never admit it, Ian started to tear up as well. The baby had bright blue eyes just like his eyes. “I’m so proud of you Melanie,” he kisses her and looks down at his son. HIS son.
