Melian 7: Burning The Midnight Oil.

Aedin chugged another energy drink. He turned the page in the text book and read the same paragraph ten times.  Damn his ADHD. Why didn’t he study sooner?  He closed his book and went downstairs to get something to eat. After scrounging the fridge, he emerged with a cup of yogurt. He sat at the counter and ate it slowly and quietly, since it was 1 am and most likely everyone else was sleeping. Daisy sat next to him staring longingly at his cup. “No,” he says. “It’s my yogurt.” He ate the last spoonful and set the cup in the sink. “Can’t sleep?” Aedin drops the spoon in the sink causing a clutter. He turns around to see Ian standing in the door way wearing plaid pajama pants, an old track shirt, and his hair messy from sleep. “Uh, yeah dad.” He says. “Sure,” Ian says smiling. “What are you studying?” Aedin slumps his shoulders. “History.” He says. “Now, I could be a good father and tell you to get to bed and scold you for not studying,” Ian says opening the fridge and taking a sip out of the gallon of milk. “Don’t tell mom, but since I am not a good father, I will give you some tips.” He says. Aedin nods and sits down at the counter again. “Read everything thoroughly, though I know it’s hard, but trust me it works, oh and don’t drink too many energy drinks because they’ll make you jittery,” he says. “How did you know about my energy drinks?” Aedin asks. “I didn’t until now.” Ian smirks. Aedin shakes his head and smiles. “I should have seen that coming.” “But seriously though, I know what you’re going through, I did this all through high school, just reread, and think, and write down notes. Have Kim quiz you on the way to school too.” He says. Aedin nods and gets up off the counter. “Thanks dad.” He says. Ian hugs his son. “You’re welcome, I love you.” He says letting him go. “I love you too.” Aedin heads back upstairs to reread.

The next day he comes home smiling. “How did the test go sweetie?” Melanie asks as Aedin walks through the door. “Good actually, I knew what I was doing.” He says smiling and kissing his mom on the head. He walked down into Ian’s office and knocked on the already open door. “Hey, how’d the test go?” Ian asks looking up from the editing he was doing. “Good, but I’m really tired.” He says. “That’s what you get.” Ian says. “WHEN YOU LET YOUR HEART WIN!!” Aedin screams. “I see you’ve been watching Gamebangs.” Ian says chuckling.
