"I don't love you." I was hurt hearing those words coming out from her mouth. I know that she meant it as an answer to what I have said, but still, hearing it pains me. What if it was true?
"What's taking you so long, James?! Hurry up we're running late."
"For a sec!" For a second I have doubted her love but in the snap I saw her beside the hospital bed, I realised that what she feels is true.
She wouldn't have sticked by my side if she doesn't love me. She wouldn't have been there at the hospital that night. We wouldn't be back here in Berkshire together after a year."Kinakabahan ako." She laughed and pinched my cheeks.
"Cute cute mo. Are you coming?" I shook my head. "Okay. Ako na lang."
"I missed hearing you play." She said upon entering the living room with take away food and an envelope from the doctor.
"I missed it too." I had some broken finger bones caused by the accident. It was just now that they have cleared me to be able to play instruments again.
"Ah!", she shouted. And as I turned to her, I saw shattered ice cubes and glasses of the drink she bought.
"Are you okay?" I looked at her arm that is turning red because she bumped into the cupboard. She looked like she was about to cry but she shrugged the pain off and went to get her cleaning apparatus.
The figurine broke.
"Let me clean it, Beatrice." She went back to the kitchen while I was cleaning. With the shiny pieces of broken glass, I saw something. I gently brushed aside the shattered glass to see what is underneath them.
It's a ring.
Just as I was about to pick it up, she came back, picked up the ring and went behind me. I guess it is hers.
I continued cleaning the mess up. As I was done, I turned to her—only to see her kneeling down with our pictures on a customised accordion frame.
"How are you doing things so fast?"
"Uhm. I just did it? I prepared for it three years ago. So let me go straight to the question..."
What she have on her hands is a box that looked like what used to be inside the figurine. She broke it, on purpose.
She had tears in her eyes! I wanted to hug her but I feel like I'm stuck on where I'm standing.
"Will you marry me James?"
Without no hesitation, I picked her up and for the first time I felt her soft lips on mine.
"Yes, Beatrice. I do."
