The ride down the elevator was quiet, and a bit awkward. I didn't know why, but I felt bad about yelling at Sam like that. He loved me so much that he would inject himself with a deadly virus to be with me. But Maddie was right, he was obsessive, no normal person who stay with someone in a coma that might not even live for 40 years.
"Are you alright?"
I turned to look at Maddie, she didn't look mad, she looked concerned. I didn't know why, she barely knew me. But when I looked at her butterflies filled my stomach.
The elevator door opened and I looked into the waiting room.
"But why isn't she in her room?" a worried voice said.
I could see the nurse talking to someone.
"She ran out of her room."
I stepped out of the elevator with Maddie following behind me. The nurse was blocking the woman.
"I'm going to go see her." The woman said pushing the nurse out of the way. She stopped the moment she saw me, behind her was a man, her husband, my father.
They both started tearing up. My mother had black long hair that was for once pulled out of her face into a high ponytail. Her skin was as pale as mine. Here eyes were a dull black. Behind her my father had short blonde curly hair that stopped right above his eyebrows. His eyes were like mine, blue. He had fair skin to the point it was almost tan. They both had wrinkled skin, they had also aged much since I had last seen them, they looked to be in their 70s.
My mother broke away from my father and ran over to me pulling me into her arms, my father was right behind her. And I stood their, in between both of them, hugging my mother.
"Sisi." I looked over my mothers shoulder to see my little brother Johnny, he too had aged, he looked only ten years younger than sam. When I was fifteen me and him were only five years apart. he was a few inches taller than me.
My mother broke from our embrace and let me run over to Johnny. I pulled him into my arms. He had doused himself in cologne, it reminded me of when he was three, and wanted to be like my father, so before we went to church he had put on one of my father's old suit, put gel in his hair and put on cologne, but he had sprayed too much, for a week he had smelled like that cologne. It was the same cologne he was wearing now.
He pushed me away a little creating some space in between us, he held onto me, which was a good thing because I felt slightly dizzy.
"Looks like I'm the older sibling now." he said chuckling. "Did you see Sam?"
I nodded looking down.
I guess he saw my sadness because he started cracking jokes about how terrible Sam was, and how he was stupid and practically tried to kill himself.
"If he tries to go near you ill knock his teeth out." I turned around to see my father cracking his knuckles. I laughed, he still act like he did when I first started dating Sam.
"I think we need to take Ms.Moon back to her room to run a few tests."
I looked behind my parents, it was a woman in a white coat. I could only guess she was my doctor.
"Your family can be with you but we need to run those tests, we need to know why you are waking up now, and why you haven't aged. we also need to share some information with you. Maddie," she turned to Maddie who was standing next to her. "Please escort them to her room."
Maddie nodded and walked us back to the elevator.
When we got to my room I laid back on my bed. Johnny sat on the edge of my bed, and my parents sat with each other on in a small chair.
Maddie left after bringing us, saying that she had some tests that had needed to be run. For some reason ii was sad when she left. I shrugged the feeling off and focused on my family. The nurse came back in and took some blood and the normal routine of checking my temperature and heart rate.
The doctor came back in with a clipboard.
"We have good news, and some bad." she took a deep breath and started explaining. "Your vitals are perfect, but your illness hasn't gotten any better, we still don't know why you just woke up, but we think it is because the nurse who was tending to you has the same illness as you. The good news is that we have something that might help, unfortunately, we can't get rid of your illness, but we have something that can temporarily get rid of the effects of being around someone who is healthy, every four hours you take a shot that injects medicine into that makes you almost healthy. We will need to keep you for another week to see if it works, if it does you can go, coming back every week to pick up the medicine. If it doesn't you can leave, but with much caution.
I nodded taking in everything that was said. It was good news.
My family had to leave after visiting hours. I didn't see Maddie again, but I wanted to. I fell asleep, for some reason dreaming about her.
