Two hats, three wristbands, a t-shirt and a dreamcatcher. Not to mention some rainbow cupcakes. And talking to many "native gays" as Maddie put it.
It wasn't the first gay pride I had been to, but it was most defiantly the biggest. During forty years you miss out on the lgbtq+ becoming bigger and more widely accepted. With the exeption of a few jerk faces.
After being forced to get my face painted, with Maddie agreeing she would also have her face painted rainbow as well.
"Wait." I said once she was done with Maddie's face.
I took a pinch of glitter in between my fingers.
"You wouldn't dare."
I grinned as I glanced at the man who painted her face, he smiled and slowly nodded. I flicked the glitter onto Maddie's' face right after she squinted her eyes shut. When she opened her eyes I was laughing, so she did the same coating my face with glitter. She smiled and got up and entwined her hand in mine and left the booth.
It had gotten late, and while walking back to the car I had the strange feeling of being watched. Every now and then I would look around. There were other people waling around us so I couldn't really tell if there was anyone that was.
"You good?" Maddie asked.
I nodded and decided to shake the feeling off. It was probably nothing.
Boy was I wrong.
