I quickly hung up the phone and ran back into the ice cream shop.

"Gummy worms are good." Ryan said staring at his ice cream.

"Come on, Ryan. We have to go." I said grabbing my jacket.

"Where are we going?"

"Back to the house. Come on." I headed out of the door.

He followed at a close distance. I unlocked the car doors.

He got in the back seat and I got in the driver's seat.

On the way back to the house, I tried to figure out an explanation for why Carson would come to our house. How did he even get our address? No one's seen him since the funeral.

"How come we left so early?" Ryan's question interrupted my thoughts.

"Um, something happened at home. Look, when we get there, I want you to stay in the car until I come back out, OK?"

"How come?"

"I've got to go check on something." I said making a sharp turn into the subdivision.

"But I wanna' go in too."

I swallowed a huge lump in my throat, thinking about Cindy and Annah. I hoped they were OK.

I sped down our street and into our driveway. There I saw Carson's red Honda.

I quickly got out of the car.

"Whose car is that?"

"Stay in the car Ryan." I said closing the door and setting the alarm.

"But whose car is it!" He yelled through the window.

"In the car!" I yelled back, nervously getting out my keys to unlock the door.

I heard loud noises coming from the other side of the door.

"Come on!" I said, as my shaky hands struggled to open the door.

Eventually I got it open and I was welcomed with a flying plant  being thrown across the kitchen into the living room.

I heard Cindy screaming.

"Carson!!" I yelled barging into the house.

"Where is my son!" I heard him roar from the living room.

I ran in and saw Cindy crouched in the corner holding Annah. Carson was storming towards them with a chair above his head.

"Carson!!" I ran towards him and tackled him.

"Get the hell off me!!" He yelled struggling to push me off him.

"What the hell are you doing! Why are you here?" I said once I removed the chair from his reach.

"I came to get my son. Where is he?!" He said getting off the floor.

I searched his eyes to see if he was drunk or just insane. All I saw was rage. "Carson..what are you talking about?"

"Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about! Where is Ryan!"

"Carson....you're not his father." I said in a calm tone.

"I am!" He came towards me and put his hands around my throat.

"Get off of him!" Cindy set Annah down and grabbed his arms.

He swung her off of him and she hit the wall.

"Cindy!" I banged my head against his and he stumbled back.
