[sixteen]

Alex's POV

Jamie and Nick were staring at us in shock, Indi's phone wouldn't stop blaring that bloody R&B song, and my head felt like an explosion had just gone off inside of it.

When I told disaster girl earlier that she kept things interesting, this is certainly not what I had in mind. 

"Sorry, mate," Jamie said quickly, grabbing Nick by the arm.  "We'll, uh, leave you two alone.  I'll put your takeaway in the fridge."

They disappeared, shutting the door behind them.  God, I didn't even want to know what they were thinking.

Indi rolled off of me, banging what seemed to be every one of her body parts while doing so.  She finally silenced her phone, leaving the two of us alone in the suddenly still bathroom. 

"I have to go," she said abruptly, pulling herself up.  She was in such a rush that she nearly face planted climbing over the edge of the bathtub.  

"Why?" I asked, getting up after her.

"My friends," she said quickly, running a hand through her messy hair.  "They probably think I'm dead."

"Can't you just call them?"

She turned away from me and started toward the door.  "No."

"Indi.  Wait."

She stopped with her hand on the door handle.  "What?"

"I don't know," I answered truthfully.  "I guess I was sort of hoping that you'd stay."

"I can't," was all she said.

"Let me walk you back to the club," I offered.

"It's just right down the street."

I took the hint.  "Right, then."

She opened the door, but then stopped and turned toward me.  For a moment I thought that she was going to stay, but that hope was shattered when she pulled my phone out of her back pocket and handed it to me.

"Almost forgot," she said.

I took it.  "Yeah.  Me too."

She hesitated.  "Thank you.  For not breaking your promise."

"There's still time."

She rolled her eyes at this and pulled the door open.  She looked at me once more over her shoulder, and I felt something awful inside me knowing that I would never see her again.

But I let her go.

Because that's what she wanted and that's what I'd promised her. 

I heard the front door open and close a few moments later, still frozen in my place.

And just like that, she was gone again.
