Alex's POV
I was so incredibly lost in disaster girl that I didn't notice the man until he was in between us.
"I've been looking for you everywhere," his booming voice said to Indi. "I thought you were hiding from me."
He was huge-- double the size of me. He had to be at least twice Indi's age, which may not have been noticeable if he weren't so overtly creepy.
He seemed to know Indi, but as she caught my eye over his massive shoulder, it became all at once apparent that she certainly didn't know him.
"I was hiding from you," she said to him. "So if you'll excuse me, I'd like to continue on doing that."
I gave her a look. Was she trying to get herself murdered?
But he didn't back down. He took a step toward her, muttering something that I couldn't hear.
"Alright, piss off mate," I told him, bored by his feeble attempts. "She doesn't want to dance."
He didn't seem to care. So I wedged my way between him and Indi, though I didn't think I needed to. Her face told me that she could handle it.
"This is between me and her," the man said to me.
"Not anymore."
He was starting to piss me off. But it was nothing compared to what came next.
Because I don't think in my entire life that I've ever felt truer anger then when he pushed me to the side and moved in on Indi.
That's when all hell broke loose.
Everything happened at once-- Indi kicking the man in the bullocks, me diving for him right as he bent over in pain, someone close by yelling "Holy shit!"
The man and I went down together, landing on the dance floor with thud. But we weren't down for long, because before I could even react, his fist connected with my nose with monumental force.
I guess I should have seen that one coming.
And then he was off of me. I don't know if someone had pulled him off or if he'd decided that was enough.
I smelt the blood before I felt it running down my face. I tried to sit up, but my head spun and it was hard to see straight.
Jesus fuck that hurt.
Indi appeared in front of me. She was saying something that I couldn't understand as she hooked her arms around me and pulled me to my feet. She pushed everyone out of our way as we headed through the crowd.
I didn't realize we'd made it outside until I felt the cool air replace the humid atmosphere of the club. Indi's arms were still wrapped around my ribcage, keeping me from stumbling all over the place.
She found a bench and we sat down. She stripped off the sweater she'd been wearing shoved it at me.
"Put this under your nose to stop the blood from going everywhere," she said. "That suit looks like it costs more than my tuition."
"Indi-"
She didn't wait for me. She put her sweater under my nose herself, her hand finding its way to the back of my head and tilting it forward slightly.
"You don't have to do this," I tried.
"I do," she said, a smile breaking through. "I just watched you get your ass kicked. I feel bad for you."
"But you still-"
"Where are you staying?" she asked me abruptly.
"What?" I wasn't sure I'd heard her right.
"There's too much blood. I think your nose might be broken. We need to get you back to your hotel. Unless you'd rather go to a hospital."
Fuck. So the guy really had kicked my ass.
"Just round the corner," I said. "I can't remember the name. Some ritzy place."
"The Shangri-la?"
"That's it." I think?
She put her arm back round my middle and pulled me up. "Alright. Let's go."
"You're taking me back to my hotel?" I asked, stumbling to my feet. "You, the girl who called me out on live radio because I tried to make a move, is willingly going back to my hotel with me?"
"I can leave you to bleed out on the bench if you'd like."
"No," I said quickly. "Your DNA is all over me. If I bleed to death, the police are coming straight for you. And who else would harass innocent 'band boys' if you were locked up?"
She tried not to smile. "You're right, band boy. Now let's go before I change my mind."
