"Victoria, what's wrong?" Elijah asked, worried when he saw Victoria run up to him looking as if she'd seen a ghost. She tried to speak but only sobs came out, she unsteady wrapped her arms around Elijah as he pulled her into an embrace. "It's okay." He soothed, kissing the top of her head. "Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that."
"You need to get out of here." Victoria finally managed to say, looking up at Elijah with tear stained cheeks. "He's going to kill you, you're not safe here." She looked around frantically as if she were being watched.
She probably was.
"Who's going to kill me?" Elijah pulled away from her, but didn't let her go. "Your father?" He asked, looking down at her.
"He think's you're taking me away from him." Victoria explained, still watching her back. Elijah turned her head around so she'd look at him. "Is there somewhere we can talk in private?" Elijah nodded and took her hand in his, leading to his sleeping quarter's.
"Why would he think that I'm going to take you away from him? I mean he's not wrong but needless to say I think I've been a good influence on you thus far." Elijah sat on his makeshift bed and patted a spot on it for Victoria to sit.
"Wait, what?" Victoria raised an eyebrow in question, sitting down next to him.
"You need to get out of that place, it's not safe for you here." He looked down at his hands which were folded neatly in his lap. "I was going to help you escape, but since we're both in trouble here, we can leave together." He looked into her eyes as if looking for her answer that way. "If that is what you want." He whispered, placing a hand on her cheek.
Victoria's heart skipped a beat at the thought of running away with him. She knew it was probably in her best interest that she'd go, and she'd be safe with Elijah. Where would they go? If they left, they'd have no where to go or anyone but each other to depend on. But for some reason that didn't scare Victoria. She knew that as long as she had Elijah by her side, she'd be safe. Maybe that was the reason she leaned over and kissed him suddenly. Just as quickly as the kiss had started, it had ended with Victoria pulling away, covering her mouth slightly.
"I'm sorry... I don't know what that was." She looked down at the small space between them. Elijah smirked slightly, nudging her nose with his.
"It's alright." He closed the space between them again, Victoria's cheeks burned bright pink. "Does me being this close bother you?" He asked, making sure he wasn't making her too uncomfortable.
"N- no." She struggled to get out the words. "I don't mind." She added, gaining a little more confidence.
"Then you wouldn't mind if I did this?" He leaned closer to her and kissed her on the lips, softly yet passionately before pulling away again. He looked at her face to see her reaction, to see if she was uncomfortable, because if she were, he'd stop right then and there and do something else. But she wasn't, she rather enjoyed it.
"However..." She trailed off, pulling away. "This is something that will have to wait I'm afraid." She smiled when she heard his fake sigh of disappointment. "We have to think of a plan to get away." She continued as he moved away from her slightly.
"Right, it'd be more reasonable to leave as soon as possible, but people will notice if we leave before the show is over." He clasped his hands in his lap again. "Although we can't afford to wait around long enough for him to hurt someone else?"
"What if we don't run away, but we don't stay here?" Victoria had a haunting look in her eye.
"What are you suggesting?" Elijah asked, not liking for a second whatever she was thinking about.
"What if we're dead?" Victoria suggested, the look in her eyes faded when she realized how terrified Elijah looked. "People would only assume that we were dead." She reassured him.
"That's a good idea, but how would we do it?" Elijah licked his lips in thought, his mind came up with a solution. "The final scene, Caterina has a final number when she finds Nathaniel's dead body right?" Elijah thought out loud, waiting for Victoria to answer.
"Yes, she finds him slain in his room and sings about how heartbroken she is because of they way he was killed by her cousin and that they couldn't be together due to status." She explained, looking over at Elijah in the eye, and with a single glance she could see where he was going with his plan. "You think I should improvise Caterina committing suicide in the end of the play? How would that make him believe I'm dead and not just improvising?"
"Because I'll make it look like I have been murder by the the man who is playing my rival." Elijah explained more. "I will talk to him and explain it as a way to make the scene more realistic." He continued. "Your father will see me 'die' and then when he sees that you've noticed that I've 'died' it will make sense that you would commit suicide because of how madly in love with me you are." He smirked when he said his last point.
"Who said I was madly in love with you?" Victoria smirked back, pushing his shoulder playfully. "I tolerate you at best." She kissed his cheek. "So it's settled, that's how we'll escape?"
"Yes, and as soon as the curtain falls we'll make a run for the door in the back of the stage, but we'll have to be quick." He nodded, looking for Victoria's nod of approval. Which he got, then he took her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. "And then we'll be free. You'll be free." He brought her hand up to his lips and kissed it.
"Elijah?"
"Yes mon amour?"
"I love you."
"I love you too."
