Dick's Pov
The goddess' name was Oana. And she's been 'dead' for hundreds of years.
There had been a briefing a few days ago about a week after our Luthor mission. Zatanna and Dr. Fate had held the meeting. The two of them had been searching for any connections between the magical world and the alien world. With the help of the Green Lantern Corps, Zatanna was able to piece together a file. It was a very small file, but it gave us a starting place.
As one unit, the Team and the League decided where we would take this information next. Jaime stepped up to the plate. The key was the only artifact that proved useful since everything had been taken. He was going to work on translating.
But that was the good news.
I knew that Zatanna didn't want to talk about it, but she couldn't withhold any details. She could barely look at me when she began to discuss the repercussions against Kristen.
We had always known that her brother had been a weakness for her. Zatanna assumes that eventually, the Light believed that she was mentally unstable, that she would crack. With the anomalies in her blood stream from the Miami mission and Apokolips, we can safely assume now, that the Light was willing to expose that.
That's not the worst of it. According to a few new resources, Darkseid controlling Kristen without physically torturing her first would be virtually impossible. And that's why there were traces of an unknown serum in her body. He was controlling her physically all the way from Apokolips through the serum, which explains the fits she had before she went dark. But something happened to her on Apokolips before she came back to Earth, another mind trick.
Which meant we had two options. We take the fight to Apokolips again. Or we flush the serum out of her system with an antidote and reset her consciousness with a spell.
Except we didn't have an antidote. We also weren't sure if control is all that the serum is for. And we didn't know if the thing that speaks through her, Oana, will eventually become her. If it does, then an antidote or a spell might not even work.
"Reincarnation", that's what Zatanna had said.
I punched the dummy again and pausing to catch my breath. It was becoming a habit of mine to train and cloud my head with a million thoughts. I wasn't positive about whether or not it was healthy, but it worked for me.
I unstrapped my gloves to grab my water bottle. I never trained in my suit, but then again, I never trained in the Hall. Everything was just a new one today.
After slowing my heartbeat down a little, I strapped my gloves back on. I lifted my fists again- "Nightwing?"
I spun on my heel to the entrance. Standing in the entrance was Stephanie, her arms clamped by her sides. For a moment we just stared at one another. "Yes?"
She took one step forward but that was it. She was in civvies, a pair of leggings and a t-shirt. The Nikes on her feet squeaked a little when she shifted back and forth. "Um, could I ask you a question?"
"You already did," I responded. I figured joking would help ease both of us. She was nervous and I was certainly uncomfortable. It was a lose-lose situation. "What do you need?"
"I couldn't decide whether to actually ask, which is why it's been so long, and I know that I'm not exactly entitled to ask you questions like this, but I couldn't not ask you, since I've been wondering for the past week and," She took a deep breath and another step forward. "I'm rambling. Um, who was that girl? The one on the Luthor mission?"
I looked away. I honestly didn't know how to answer that question, or if I was even allowed to. Bruce may have let her amongst our ranks, but that didn't mean we had to trust her so much, right away. She wasn't even allowed in the Tower yet.
