My hands shook as I opened the door to the bathroom, the two little white strips lay on the counter ready for me to read. Asher was out and I was alone. My butterflies fluttered in my stomach and my heart raced. God how can these two little things make me so nervous and scared? Because they can change my future so drastically.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before I finally found the courage to move my feet to go over to the counter. I felt the cold granite under my fingers and I took another deep breath as I opened one eye to look at them. Positive.
Both my eyes were wide open now as I stared at them, both of them were positive! Holy hell. But… What? How could this have happened? I’m on the pill.
Without a second thought I reached into my pocket and dialed a number.
“Hey baby.” His voice greeted me happily, what if he wasn’t happy that I was pregnant. “Nora? Hello?”
“Asher?” I whispered over the phone as my eyes brimmed with tears.
“Nora, what’s wrong?” His voice shook slightly.
“I need…” I trailed off, I couldn’t say it over the phone I knew that but Shouldn’t I plan some big reveal? No. He needs to be told now.
“Need what?” He asked after a moment of silence, “babe you’re scaring me.”
I sucked in a deep breath and started again, “Asher I need to tell you something.”
He didn’t respond right away and I waited, I couldn’t tell what he was thinking or why he wasn’t saying anything but it scared me. “I’ll be there in five minutes.” His voice sounded deadly.
“I love you.” I told him softly.
A pause. “I love you too.”
We hung up and I went to my luggage straight away and unzipped the front pocket. I guess I was going to use this sooner than I thought. I hope Asher’s okay with this. I know he wanted to wait to have children, he wanted us to be married and stable but I guess life has different plans for us.
I sat on the bed staring at the little onesie on my lap as I placed a hand on my stomach. I wasn’t that far along that it was noticeable, at least I don’t think. But with my hand on my stomach it seemed to click, there was a person growing in me. I felt my lips twitch into a smile for a split second before I heard fumbling with the door knob and I dreaded filled me. How was was I going to tell him? How was he going to react?
“Nora?” His voice filled the room as I stood up holding the onesie and pregnancy stick behind my back. His eyes look guarded as he stared at me. “What’s wrong?” He asked but he kept his distance.
“I’m..” I bit my lip and he furrowed his eyebrows confused.
