-Cady-

I woke up in the middle of the night, the pain coming from my side was almost unbearable. I checked the time on my phone and it had just gone two in the morning. I rushed downstairs to get some painkillers when I heard Josh come downstairs.

"Babe are you alright?"

"I am fine, it's just my side"

"What about it? Should I be worried?" I had forgotten to tell Josh that my old wound would cause some pain.

"Oh I forgot to tell you, because of my old stab wound I will probably suffer from some pain. But I just have to get used to it"

"Oh, well I will make sure I take care of you"

"Thanks babe" I walked over to where Josh was standing, and kissed him on the tip of his nose.

"What was that for?"

"For being here with me"

"I will always be here for you"

"Good" I gave Josh a cheeky smile and he picked me up to carry me into bed. My side was still hurting but I got used to it and fell asleep.

-Josh-

I heard Cady walk downstairs, why did she get out of bed at two in the morning? I stepped down the stairs quietly so I didn't startle her. She was in the kitchen leaning over the sink taking some pain killers, I hope she was okay.

"Babe are you alright?"

"I am fine, it's just my side"

Now I started to get really worried. Why was her side hurting, the last time it was hurting she ended up in an emergency room. I couldn't let that happen again. She told me the doctor said she would experience some pain from her old stab wound. I was slightly relieved, but it didn't seem fair she had to go through this. It wasn't her fault someone had stabbed her. I carried her up to bed and she fell asleep quite quickly. I couldn't go to sleep knowing she felt this way, I was too worried for her. So I stayed awake, making sure I was there for her if she needed me.

Cady woke up later on at about half past nine. I hadn't had an ounce of sleep last night, but I didn't mind because I knew Cady was okay.

"Morning beautiful" I said to Cady in a quiet voice

"Morning handsome" I loved her morning voice, it was husky yet pure.

"How is your side?"

"Better, still not great"

"The doctor rang earlier, he wants to see you today for a scan instead of Thursday because he cant fit you in, is that okay?"

"That's fine, I need to get some more pain killers anyway"

"Okay, we have a few hours, what do you want to do?"

"Can we just go downstairs and watch a film? I don't feel like doing much"

"That sounds perfect babe, do you want me to get some breakfast from that bistro down the street?"

"No thanks babe, I am fine with my oranges" She smiled up at me, I was concerned she wasn't eating very much apart from oranges.

"Babe what did you have to eat yesterday?"

"Nothing really, I didn't seem hungry"

"Babe, you should be eating" She didn't reply to me and just curled back up in the duvet. I went downstairs to get her some oranges, when I went back up she was in the bathroom being sick again. I sat down behind her, stroking her back and holding her hair out of her face. She sat back in my lap crying

"Babe what's wrong?"

"It just hurts okay"

"I don't think this is right, it surely shouldn't be hurting this much" She continued crying as I held her around her waist, rocking her back and forth alongside my body.

"I am going to see if we can get an earlier appointment" I went back into the bedroom and chucked her some of her clothes. I picked up my phone and rang the clinic. The doctor agreed to see us in half an hour so we went straight there. Something didn't seem right about Cady, she wasn't herself.

We walked into the reception to be greeted by a Doctor Jones, he obviously recognised Cady as she followed him into an office, so I followed her.

"Hello you two, Cady could you go and lie down on that bench for me please? I need to talk to your husband"

"Okay" She shuffled over to the bench, her eyes looked lifeless. I walked with the doctor into the hallway,

"Has she been okay?"

"Her side has been causing a lot of pain, and she doesn't seem herself at all"

"Right, okay. Well we are going to run a scan and a few tests to make sure they are both healthy. How much pain has her side been causing exactly?"

"A lot, she has been crying because it hurts so much, its just not fair."

"Mr Cuthbert, it will be fine I am sure, but this is why we run these tests, so if there is something wrong we can probably sort it out"

"You think there is something wrong? What?" I nearly shouted at the doctor

"Mr Cuthbert, please calm down. There probably isn't anything wrong, we just need to take some precautions, now we will go and do a scan" He went back into the room and I sat on the chair which was beside Cady's bench. I grasped her hand tightly as the doctor rolled up her shirt. He started to press gently on her stomach, she winced and moaned in pain when he put pressure on her side. Tears started forming behind my eyes as I saw how much pain she was in, something definitely wasn't right.

"Right Cady, I am going to do a scan now, so just stay as still as possible, okay?"

He rolled the sensor around on Cady's stomach as we all looked up at the monitor. You could just about see an outline of a little baby. Cady and I looked at eachother with huge grins on our faces, but the doctor said something we both didn't want to hear,

"Excuse me a second, I need to go and get one of my colleagues"

Cady's smile turned into an empty expression, as did mine. Cady started crying

"Josh, what has happened, it is going to be okay right? What if it isn't, Josh I'm scared."

"Babe, I am sure everything is fine, we will get through this. I promise"

I kissed her hand as Doctor Jones came back in with a tall lanky woman, who I guessed was his colleague.

"Hi you two, how is the pregnancy coming along? Any abnormal pain or activity?"

Cady just looked at me, too overwhelmed to speak, so I did for her

"Um well she has been suffering from a lot of pain, by her stab wound. But apart from that I think everything is okay" The nurse looked back at her notes and I gave a reassuring smile to Cady. Her eyes were swollen and bloodshot from the tears. The nurse started rolling the sensor around and gave a nod to the Doctor, Cady started looking between them both waiting for someone to say something. But instead they both walked back out to the corridor. I hugged her tightly, I couldn't bare to see her like this. The Doctor came in again, alone this time.

"I am very sorry, but it seems there is a problem"

Cady started crying a lot now, it was all I could do to stop myself so I could speak to the doctor properly.

"What do you mean? We can sort it out right?"

"I am sorry, but no, we cant"
