Chapter 1

Toby's POV

Turns out they didn't end up breaking up a month later, instead 3 months later dad proposed to her

Of course, because life is a hateful thing, she said yes, for some reason I was made best man even though I was totally against the wedding, I made my feelings about Chloe very well known to her, this random 20 something could not become my step mother

And yet she did, a couple of weeks after they got engaged she moved it with us, fabulous, remind me to wear headphones to bed became my new catchphrase

Nah I'm kidding about that part, but I don't doubt he was all over her when I wasn't there from the amount of times she had a new hickey, do you know how gross that is? My 23 year old step mother to be walking around covered in hickeys my 30 year old dad had put all over her

Let's just say it isn't pleasant

One time it was really awful

I had a parent-teacher meeting and of course as my future stepmom she had to come

Everyone thought she was my mom, like seriously? She'd have been like 10, what the fuck

I did feel bad for her over that to be honest because everyone was giving her really judgey looks, I heard her crying that night about it, I know dad felt bad he made her go

She knows I don't like her but she just won't leave me alone, she's trying to play happy families and we are NOT a family, she is not my mother and she never will be

After an 8 month engagement, which please note was two months more than they were actually dating for, their wedding day came

I hated it, having to stand there and act like I liked what was happening, I knew she made my dad happy but I just don't want her here, she's not my family, I refuse to accept her as such

They both seemed so happy which was kinda nice I guess

But when someone said "are you happy for your parents?" I nearly went batshit crazy, like no, that is not my mother, I don't give a shit if they're married, she's not my mom

The wedding was quite small, she didn't have much family or anything so it was mostly my dad's friends and family so luckily most of them knew she was nothing to do with me

There's a picture of the three of us from the wedding up on the mantelpiece, I shudder every time I look at it

It's just weird that she's so young, it creeps me out, I don't know why, it just does

Of course just because my family life wasn't agitating enough dad then had it sorted out so Chloe adopted me, legally she is actually my mother, ugh

She tries, I know she does, but I don't intend to do any bonding shit with her, I'm 14 now, I don't need a mom that I don't want

I don't get what's so special about her that she won my dad's heart, he's the best and she's....well she's eh on a good day

Here's hoping there's a divorce in their future, I certainly wouldn't have an issue with it if there was
