Chapter 11

Toby's POV

I had to think long and hard after that conversation, it was Thursday night so I didn't have very long to decide but in reality I think my decision was made the second we finished that conversation

Friday afternoon soon came and as soon as the bell went, signalling the end of school, I ran out as fast as I could, I just wanted to get home already

I walked out and was heading for the bus when I saw Chloe's car

I said bye to my friends and headed over to her

I opened the door and got in, as soon as I was belted in she started driving

"I thought you were at work today?" I asked her in confusion

"I wasn't very well so they sent me home" she explains

We go the rest of the way home in silence, it's so awkward

We finally get home and I go straight up to my room

I pull out my homework and get to work on it, needing something to pass the time

Half an hour later the doorbell goes

This was it, time to meet my mother, something I've been waiting my entire life to do

I walk downstairs I hear a woman's voice talking to my dad

"Where is he?" She asks him abruptly

"Here" I say as I go down the last few steps

"Toby!" She exclaims in a way that sounds so fake and stuck up, this is my mother? I guess it all makes sense now

"You ready to go buddy?" Dad asks me and I see the smirk come across her face as she realises I told him I wanted to go

"Wouldn't let him near me huh?" She sneers at dad

"Come on Toby let's get out of here" my mom gestures for me to follow her out

"Dad where's Chloe?" I ask him hurriedly

"Upstairs doing chores I expect, why?" He questions confusedly

"Can you please go get her?" I ask him

He hesitantly nods and jogs upstairs to get her

"That's it, why not rub it in that little sluts face, show her what your mother really looks like rather than the imposter in your life that she is" she snarls about Chloe

My blood boils as I hear her talk like that about Chloe

I'm glad I made the decision I made, I'm ready for this, there's not a doubt in my mind

"You okay Toby?" I hear Chloe ask as she and dad come back down the stairs

"I just wanted you to be here for this" I tell her no then turn back to the woman on the doorstep

Mother? As if

"You know I wanted to meet you, regardless of what you did, regardless of anyone's opinion of you I wanted to try and get to know my mother" I start and a smirk appears across her face causing me to roll my eyes dramatically

"Okay then lets go" she says impatiently

"But then I realised, you're not my mother, biologically yes but I never other definable way you're not, these are my parents, she may be my stepmom not my real mom but she's closer to a proper mother than you ever have been or ever will be" I sneer at her

Her face goes cold and her stare turns to a glare

"You pick that slut over your own flesh and blood?" She hisses

"So she's the slut when you had a kid out of wedlock at 17 who you then ran out on? Because you're totally in a position to be judging anyone....other than the fact you're totally not in any position to do so" I reminded her aggressively, defending Chloe because I know she'd defend me

"Whatever, you're pathetic, I'm glad I left you" she snarls at me and I scoff

"I'm glad you did too because I have a great life which wouldn't be half as good with you in it, you just walk up to the door and flounce around like you own the whole damn world? You speak to my dad like that in his own house after he took the kid you abandoned and raised me all by himself? Get the fuck out of my life and stay out, I'm not pathetic here, you are, so bye now" I mock and jeer at her before slamming he door in her face

That felt so good, you have no idea
