(A/N- you guys requested! And this part will be hella long but enjoy!)
3rd person pov.It was the day, the anniversary of frisks sacrifice. Sans approached the falls, where they spent their last moments together, their last kiss. He was shocked to see Grillby already there, his head bowed in respect and guilt. Sans placed a hand on his friends shoulder, trying to comfort him.
"It's all my fault, I let the darkness consume me to the point where I lost control, if I had been stronger-"
"If I had fought against the hit on your wife the darkness wouldn't have had anything to feed off from you, and it would have driven frisk further and further into her depression," sans said quietly. "There is no escaping it."
Grillby knew what he was saying was the truth.
"It's sad how things work out, the darkness always ends up taking someone with it," Grillby spoke softly, sans could only nod his agreement. Everything in the underground seemed to be on the mend though, surprisingly.
Everything has fallen into place, the investigation into the death of Grillbys wife was coming to a close, it had been three years since frisk rolled herself off edge that stood just a few feet from him. He had contemplated joining his love and jumping, he never did see it through. Something always told him to stay, be it the will to live, or a cowardly fear of dying. He layed His bouquet of echo flowers down at the edge of the cliff before the falls beside Grillbys bouquet of buttercups, just as he had done every year prior. His phone buzzed in his pocket, he pulled it out and answered.
"Hey," he answered, unable to hide the gloom in his voice.
"I've f-figured it o-out!" Alphys stuttered through the phone.
"Really?!" He asked optimistically, turning and looking at the flowers he had placed only minutes ago. Maybe it was frisks will, maybe it was merely coincidence, but everyone was ready to finally put this all In The past.
"Yes, yes it was-" the line cut out.
"Oops?" Sans and Grillby both spun on their heels to see who stood before them, muffet stood tall with a signal jammer in her hand.
"I knew it," sans muttered, the slashes, claw marks, the scene had this filthy arachnids hands all over it, but without proper evidence they could file no charges, serve no punishments.
"Ssssory to cut you call short, but I have a trade I'd like to offer you, both of you," She picked up a briefcase that layed next to her. Opening to pull out a crystal bottle, with a soul shaped stopper. Sans identified the object instantly as frisks talisman, Grillby identified her soul inside it. The red mist looked like dark storm clouds, the darkness like black lightning. Frisks vow to hold the darkness till peace could be made, standing tall as her soul danced violently with the shadows.
"What do you want?" Sans asked. He would kill if he had too.
"Pardon, I'll admit to everything but don't plan on ssssspending time in prison," muffet hisses.
She won't get away with murdering Grillbys wife! She needs to pay- sans thoughts were cut off.
"Deal," Grillby spoke without hesitation. The law system between monsters worked like a revenge system, the family or closest loved one to a monster chose what the course of action would be. The death of Grillbys wife meant the punishment would be his to choose, he could forgive and grant pardon if he choosed, but after all this time?
"Grillby?"
"I let the darkness get the better of me once, I should have put the event behind me a long time ago. It's the least I could do after all that frisk has done for me," Grillbys voice was serious. He took a deep breath and pulled out his phone, he called the royal guard.
"Undyne here."
"It's Grillby."
"Oh hey, we solved your case, were ready to bring this criminal to justice."
"I grant her pardon, i forgive her," he said it with certainty.
"Yo punk you sure about this?"
"Yes, I'm sure," and with that, Grillby hung up the phone.
"Your free to go," he said turning back to muffet. Sans could only stare at him stunned.
"Thanksssssss dearie," muffet laughed and through the crystal talisman in the air before running down the dark cave. It hit the ground before Grillby or sans could even comprehend what had happened. The crystal shattered, a whirlpool of magic creating a tornado of wind around them. The large wind pulling both bouquets into it, the mix of blue, yellow, red, and black was like a shell that held everything inside. A large crack of thunder shook the ground causing both sans and Grillby to fall to the ground. Frisks soul exploded with light, hurdling her human form against the hard cave wall. The whirling darkness began to melt into a puddle of black tar. The black substance leached into one of the lone flowers that scattered the area. Sans and Grillby both hurried to the unconscious princess before them. She seemed older than when sans had said goodbye, she looked almost his age now.
*cough* "ow..." frisk groaned holding her head.
"Kiddo?" Sans didn't dare even breath, the possibility of this all being a dream was real now and he wasn't sure.
"What happened? How long?"
"Too long kiddo, how are you feeling?"
"Older," she groaned. "The spell used up life energy, took a few years off me, I think I'm like," she looked up and away in thought. "30/31? Something like that," she sighed. She looked over at Grillby, he hadn't said a word. She poked him playfully. "Hey! Don't you dare give me the silent treatment!" She laughed.
"I just, don't know what to say," Grillby shoulders slumped.
"You could invite me for a drink? I honestly need something strong right now," she smirked. Everyone laughed.
"Howdy!" All three heads snapped in the direction of the new voice. The darkness created a host from the flower. "I'm Flowey, Flowey the flower! Can't wait to play with all of you!" The flower cackled evilly. Sans and Grillby both summoned their magic, ready to fight. The flower stuck it's tongue at them before disappearing into the ground.
"You all saw that too right? I'm not going crazy?"
"I saw it," sans and Grillby replied almost in unison.
"Well," frisk said to herself. "I did say play..."
"What?" Sans asked, hearing her mumble.
"Nothing," she sat up.
"I don't think so!" Sans exclaimed as he picked her up bridal style. she gasped out of shock and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Let's get you to the lab," he said. She only nodded.
"Hey, how old are you now?"
"29."
"So I'm older now? How'd that happen?" She asked making Grillby chuckle.
"You should rest," he said calmly. Frisk nodded at the fire monster and snuggled closer to the skeleton carrying her. Sans had her back, he finally did, sure there was new evil but wasn't there always? This was about as close to a happily ever after as he could get, and he wasn't going to waste it. This was was the end of their story, and the beginning of the rest of their lives.
