I'm going to make this short and sweet. This post is about when I was a little older...maybe 12 or so.
In 6th grade my teacher let us pick one book from a selection of 3 or 4 books. We were to read this book and then we probably had to do a report on it. I'm not entirely clear on that part. I picked a book called The Westing Game. I started to read it. I couldn't understand it.
I don't know how it happened but somehow I kept the book. I know I wasn't supposed to but I did. I never ended up reading the book. It was too confusing for my 6th grade mind. Year later I found the book hidden away. I attempted to read the book and fell in love with it.
This had happened to me before with a book called The Phantom Tollbooth. I didn't understand it, I read it later, and fell in love with it. But this post is not about that book, It's about The Westing Game. Even though this book is written for a younger audience I still read it. I probably read it three or more times in a year. I highly suggest getting your hands on it and reading it. Maybe you'll like it too.
I felt terribly bad when I found the copy of the book years later. It still has the school's name stamped on the cover. I wasn't going to the same school anymore when I found it and I wanted my little sister to bring it to school with her and give it back to the teacher (she had the same teacher as I did). I kept telling her to just bring it to school and to leave it on his desk. He didn't even have to know she brought it in. She never did it. But I can't blame her, I should have brought it myself. Every time I pick up the book I feel a little rush of guilt. Maybe this is considered stealing? I honestly don't know how I ended up with it. Maybe someday I'll find him and return it. Until then I will read it many more times.
