I could not believe I was being shipped off to live with someone I barely knew. I didn't even want to be with the guy, not because he wasn't hot but I have to protect the ones that I care about. In this case, I have to be as far away from him as possible.

But no.

"You're not going to talk to me at all?" Gage asked.

I turned my head to the passenger window as my response.

He just sighed. "It's going to be a ten-hour drive. We have to pass the time somehow."

I just scoffed and crossed my arms.

"Come on, just talk to me."

"Can you take me home?" I asked.

"No."

"Then no, I will not talk to you."

"Can you at least let me know when you're hungry?" He asked hopefully.

I didn't answer him. I was mad at him after all. When I told him I wouldn't go with him he just threw me over his shoulder and stuffed me in his car. When I told him I hadn't packed any clothing, he had my parents pack them for me. When I told him I would miss Eli and Mae he said they could visit regularly. When I told him I had a job he told me I could get a new one. When I told him I would miss my moms cooking, he said he would hire a chef with my mother's same cookbook. This guy had the answers to anything, it was annoying.

My father and my mother. Mon père et ma mère. Mi padre y mi madre. In whatever language you could speak those were SUPPOSED to be mes parents. Yet they just stood by and watched it all happen.

"Naomi, please don't do this to me." He pleaded.

I almost felt bad. Almost. He couldn't just barge into my life and tear down the image of normalcy in my head.

He finally fell silent. It was 7 in the morning, bright and early. I didn't feel like talking either way. A morning person I was not.

I wonder what he would do if I jumped out the car. I thought mischievously. Before I could test it out the car doors locked at that second.

"Don't even think about it." He said speeding up making it impossible for me to jump out.

Just for the sake of trying I gripped the car door handle and pulled it. It didn't open.

"You must be out your damn mind." He said with a knowing look. "Like I didn't know you would try that. You've insulted my intelligence."

I shook my head with defeat.

"Oh come on, don't give up so quickly." He urged. "You're keeping me amused."

I glared at him and decided not to look at him nor give him the time of day for the rest of the ride. All I could do was hope for sleep to take control.

It did not.

"Are you hungry?" He asked after an hour of silence had passed.

I was starving but I wasn't about to let him know that. But guess who did, my stomach.

"Alright then, where do you want to go?" He asked keeping his eyes on the road.

I just closed my eyes and turned away from him. Frankly, the only thing I was feeding on was my pride.

"Naomi, you have to eat." He pressed.

I stayed silent and he shook his head.

Five minutes later we were parked in the parking lot of my favorite fast-food restaurant.
