Mae's P.O.V.
I remembered the day like it was yesterday. It was my fault, they should have taken me instead of her. Most of her teenage years where stolen from her, because of me.

It was a clear day and it wasn't terribly hot but just warm enough. The grass was green and the trees moved with the wind as if they were saying hi to my sister and I.

Naomi and I were laying on a random field in our pack boundaries. We were lost but we didn't care, we would find our way home like always.

"Which one do you prefer waffles or pancakes?" Naomi asked with bright eyes.

She had so much to live for back then.

"You realize that they basically contain the same batter but just have different shapes?" I replied smartly.

"I didn't ask that. I asked which one you preferred." She deadpanned. "Gosh your always stealing the good mood with your annoying facts."

"It's not that serious." I said laughing at her. "But if you must know, I prefer waffles."

"Why?" She asked curiously.

"Because even though they are the same as pancakes, waffles try to be different on the outside." I said with a lazy smile.

"Oh wow, look at you. Making metaphors for life." She said beaming with tears of laughter in her eyes.

I just shook my head and hit her arm. "I can not stand you. Like your the most annoying sister ever. I hope mom has a boy so I won't have to deal with another you." I said looking at the blue skies.

"Hey do you smell that?" Naomi asked with her ears perking up to a sound of a stick snapping.

I got up and scanned our surroundings and saw nothing.

"We should go. I watch the damn movies. Two black girls in the middle of a field defenseless? Perfect for predators. Fuck that, lets go." I said rescanning for anything I could have missed.

All of a sudden 5 huge black wolves burst from the forest border a few yards away from us. They definitely weren't from our pack. All of the eyes held glints of blood red. I had never seen eyes like them.

I quickly pulled Naomi to her feet and stood in front of her.

"Do what I say when the time comes okay?" I whispered.

I couldn't check to see if she heard me because I could only keep my eyes on the enemy.

I blinked and they were bounding towards us. My bones cracked and I was a wolf in an instant. It all happened so fast.

One wolf bite my neck and another bit my leg. I put up a pretty good fight, but when 2 more wolves joined, I didn't have a chance.

When I was trying to hold my own against the huge wolves I mind linked Naomi to run. Forgetting there was still another wolf.

She did as I said and I felt hope for about 2 seconds. The last wolf had caught her in such a speed I had never seen before. She was tackled from behind and as she was being dragged she turned her head so she could see me.
