"I apologize profusely."

Porter had let go of my hand, but we were still sitting next to each other in the car. Tess and Anton were still deep at conversation in the seats behind us, on the topic of the show later this week.

"Don't worry about it." I smiled. "It's understandable."

His eyes filled with remorse. "But you were so anxious to leave. You were shaking, and your hand was damp with sweat."

I looked at the ground. "I'm sorry. I have really bad social anxiety, which sounds really attention-seeking, but its just something I can't control."

"No, no, don't apologize. I get it. We can't control a lot of things." He smiled affectionately at me, and nudged me in the shoulder. "It was a lot for me to take in at first."

"I have a question." Tess leaned over the backseat, her head between me and Porter. "Where are we going?"

"Our apartment. Me and Anton share one together. Makes it easier to exchange ideas and get feedback and inspiration, and we can collab on stuff." Porter said, like the destination was obvious.

She nodded, and the car slowed to a stop in front of an apartment, sandwiched between other identical ones. Porter hopped out, holding the door open for me. I stepped down, looking up at their new home. "This is really nice, you guys."

Porter smiled. "Thanks. There's not much stuff in it yet, but there will be. I'm a horrible decorator so we're probably gonna hire someone."

Anton and Tess were behind us now, immersed in a conversation about music. Porter led the way into the apartment, unlocking the door and motioning for us to come inside. The entryway was a long hallway, empty picture frames lining the walls. The place smelled freshly painted, and seemed incredibly new.

He led us down the hallway, and opened the door, where a room with a plush couch, a flat screen TV, and a stereo sat inside. Anton went over the couch, Tess following, and they plopped down and continued their conversation.

"Come with me." Porter said, grabbing my hand. It reminded me of earlier, when he grabbed my hand leading me out of the cafe. It sent shivers down my spine, the way his warm hand enveloped mine and his fingers fit perfectly between my fingers. We went down the long hallway again, and he led me to a door in the middle, where he opened it and waited for me to come through.

Then we were outside, and going up stairs to the roof. The air was chilly and I wrapped my sweater around me, stepping up behind Porter. We were up at the very top of the building. He was near the side, overlooking the city, his face focused intently on something in the distance.

"What are you looking at?" I said,  standing beside him.

"Do you see that?" He pointed towards the ground on the street.

I looked to where he was pointing. A family was walking with each other, smiling and taking pictures. They were clearly tourists, seemingly fascinated by the big city.

"And there too." He pointed to a different location on the street.

A couple was walking together, the boy's arm slung around the girls' waist. They were laughing about something, and then the boy reached over and pecked the girl on the cheek.

"And even that." Porter pointed somewhere else. This time, a little girl probably no older than 7 was walking her dog, and she paused and began to pet it, then nuzzled her face into its fur.
