"Alexa, heads up!"
I looked up just in time to catch an ice cold beer bottle in my hands, my eyes darting curiously to find who was shouting at me.
"You look so confused." Tess said from behind me, coming up and sitting next to me on the cool sand. The sun had gone down and the only thing illuminating the beach were the lights by the pool and the moonlight.
"I am," I chuckled. "Where did everyone go?"
"They're all near the pool, I think." She nudged her head towards the back of the house and I turned over my shoulder to spot a drunk Dillon cheering on an also drunk Anton at beer pong, while a bunch of other people crowded around. A few people were jumping into the pool, and Deadmau5 was playing out of the stereo system.
"Where's Porter?" I asked, sinking my feet into the sand.
"He's somewhere over there. You wanna go find him?"
I stood up, shaking sand off of the back of my thighs. "Yeah, I guess I'll go over there and see."
After we walked over and were greeted by catcalls from Dillon and some other guy (whom I had forgotten the name of), I grabbed a Coke from the fridge and went towards the pool to look for Porter. I didn't want to get drunk tonight so I just decided to get something non-alcoholic and sip it for the rest of the night.
"Looking for Porter?" Said a voice from beside me. I turned and saw Brighton standing there, in a metallic bikini which covered up hardly anything. She was looking at me with a smirk on her face, her hip propped out with a hand on it.
"Yeah um, have you seen him?" I asked. I wanted to get this conversation over with as quickly as possible.
"I think he's on the other side of the pool." She smiled, sickeningly sweet, before motioning with her hand in the direction of the chairs by the diving board.
"Great, thanks." I said, turning away from her and making my way over there. I squinted, trying to search for Porter in the crowd of people watching the beer pong (which was still going strong), when I felt two hands on my shoulders.
"Listen here, you little bitch." A voice spat in my ear. I immediately recognized it as Brighton. Holy shit, why couldn't she just screw off? She couldn't get a message at all.
"Fuck off." I said, pushing her off my shoulders.
"Make me." She said, before slamming her hands into my back and propelling me directly into the pool water, dress and all.
Twice in one day. Wow. I'm going to end up drowning eventually.
This time though, there was no current and no deep water, so I could come up. Unfortunately, there was a concerned Porter who jumped in after me and tried to pull me up again.
"Porter, I'm fine," I said, coming up for air and swimming towards the ladder. I looked up to see an open-mouthed Tess, and heard laughter from everyone else. Literally everyone was staring at me and pointing and laughing, and I think someone was even taking a picture of me. I probably looked like the Grudge, with my hair falling down in front of my face and all. This definitely wasn't one of my better moments.
I pulled myself up from the water, my entire body dripping wet. My dress clung to me and my bra was most likely showing through the dress. I squeezed my eyes shut, and walked past a victorious Brighton, a prominent, smug look on her face.
