Percy POV:

My phone rang. Shit. This was not the time. We were allowed to keep are phones on during the day at Goode, but this teacher didn't let us have them on, and today of all days. If only whoever it was had called five minutes later.

"Who's phone is that?" she said, freezing in the middle of her lecture. I knew the punishment was way worse for the entire class of whoever it was didn't confess. I admitted to the 'crime,' and she took my phone. "You can have this back at the end of class, if you're lucky."

Suddenly, Mrs. O'Leary broke into the classroom. I started freaking out. Hellhounds are a bit larger than your average dog.

"Who's poodle is this?! Jackson, if - " Right. The mist.

"Yes ma'am. This is my dog. I'm so sorry. She was in my apartment this morning; I don't know how she got out."

"I assume you need to take her home, don't you?"

"Yes ma'am," My teacher sighed. I had quickly become her least favorite student.

"Fine. Go ahead, but don't think I'll forget this."

"Ma'am, I'll need my phone." She started at me like I was crazy. I didn't drop her faze, much as a wanted to. She slowly opened her desk drawer and held it out.

"Thank you,"

"Mrs. O'Leary, what do need? Why do you need me during class?" My dog was seeming more anxious than usual, not her usual self. She tried to nudge me onto her back. "Oh, you have somewhere to take me? Okay." We headed right for the shadow of the back wall of my school, but shadow-traveled to another location before we hit the wall.

The old walls of the building loomed over head. The sign over the door informed me that Mrs. O'Leary had taken me to old library that burnt down in the 90s, and had never been rebuilt. It was in a quiet area of town, but the library was always a spot of dared.

"Why did you bring me here?" I asked the giant hellhound, rubbing her muzzle and sliding off her back. The sun shined brightly overhead as I crept through the door that hung on one hinge. The light from the ajar door illuminated a spot on the back wall, among decrepit bookshelves. There, a young girl stood, chained to the wall by her hands. One of Annabeth's little sisters.

"Ruby?" I called quietly, scared to break the eerie stillness. Her head raised slightly. She was bleeding from a cut on her lip and she had a black eye, but other than that, she looked mostly unharmed. I cursed under my breath as I unsheathed Riptide and began to saw through the chains. Why would anyone kidnap a twelve-year-old? I turned back to Mrs. O'Leary, but she was gone. Great. We had no way to get out of here. The nearest subway station was a few miles away. I decided to tackle that problem when we got to it. The chain holding her arm to the wall was almost completely cut when another person emerged from the shadows.

"Not so fast, Percy,"

I turned around, shocked. I would know that voice anywhere.

"Annabeth? What's going on?" I asked.

"Oh, you know, the usual. Kidnapping my favorite sister, killing my boyfriend. All in a day's work."

"What are you doing? This isn't you." That had to be true. Annabeth wouldn't do this. Something seemed off about her, the way she talked, or the way she walked, but it wasn't until I could see her face in the light that I could pinpoint it.

Her eyes.

They weren't Annabeth's stormy grey eyes.

Those gold eyes shone as the light glinted off them.

"Annabeth, whatever it is, fight it,"

"My dearest, Percy, I am perfectly okay. There's nothing to fight. This is me. And you are going to die." She launched herself at me, slashing at my head. I jumped out of the way just in time.

'It's not you. I can see it. Annabeth's eyes are grey, not golden!" Then it struck me. What were those things that had possessed me, Leo, and Jason? Annabeth told me that our eyes had been gold while they were controlling us. "Get out of my girlfriend, eidolon!" Our fight stopped abruptly.

"Very good, demigod scum, but not quite. There is no name for what I am, but those Eidolons that you and your friends killed were my distant cousins. You see, the difference is, when I possess someone, they can see exactly what is going on. Your precious girlfriend will watch with horror as I kill - " That thing gasped, and smiled. "No – as she kills everyone that she cares about, starting with you."
