Chp. 29 “A Serious Talk”

I was excited that I had done so good with my first try in using my Telekinesis. I was proud of myself, and I knew now that since I had done so well the first time, my second and third would be much better. Learning your power was like riding a bike, the first time you were nervous and you probably didn’t get too far. The second time you got on it was a bit better, and the third time you felt confident enough to make it down the street.

It was the same way with mastering your power.

Once you got the hang of it, it was like riding a bike, and it would come like second nature to you. It would be shaky and sloppy the first couple of tries, but once you get the feel for it nothing could stop you.

But getting the hang of it really tired you out, mentally and physically.

We were currently on our way to eat dinner, remembering that none of us had eaten today. We stopped at a nice little diner and we were eager to get food in our bellies after a hard day’s work.

Max spoke, “So, how many days are we waiting till we leave for Phase one?”

I remembered Gage, instantly responding, “Well, Gage needs to clear it with the station first, and we need to pack. I’m going to start packing once I get home, and I’m sure Avery will need to talk with her parents…”

She looked at me and rolled her eyes, “Screw them. I’m doing what I want.”

I felt my heart dampen at her attitude towards them, knowing she was still upset over graduation. I felt bad, mostly because I knew her parents cared about her, but she had a feeling they didn’t. All parents cared about their kids, whether or not they showed it.

But I couldn’t blame her for her foul attitude.

We were now squeezing into a booth while Max continued to ramble on about the Bureau. I couldn’t really focus on him anymore because I was too fascinated with my new power. I stared at the salt shaker at the end of the table, focusing on my invisible “arm” and holding my left hand out on the table. I was still fatigued from earlier, but I wanted to practice as much as I could.

I grabbed the salt shaker with my “arm” and pulled it towards my left hand quickly, feeling the cool glass press against my palm as I held it. I smiled victoriously as Max scolded, “Andy! Don’t do that in public you idiot! People will see!”

I rolled my eyes, “Max, it’ll be ok. We can blame it on the wind.”

He groaned in frustration as Avery grabbed my hand from under the table, pulling me out of my daydream. I smiled at her as the waitress came and took our orders. I was so ready to eat but all I could really think about now was us traveling the country all the way to New York.

The Bureau was in Buffalo, New York, which was on the Western outskirts of the state. It was a long trip but we knew it wouldn’t be anywhere near us, and we would need to prepare soon.
