Chp. 54 "Saving Avery"
I sat in my room, my head in my hands as I tried to control the anger inside me. I could feel the bubbling of my blood in my veins, and as soon as I had shut myself up in my room I couldn't control it.
How was it possible? How did the F.P.S manage to actually create a pandemic that wiped out hundreds of thousands of people and get away with it? I mean were the people in the White House completely oblivious to what was going on? Or were they just looking the other way on purpose?
What was actually going on here?
And why hadn't anyone told me this since I stepped foot in the Bureau? Doctor Henson and Roger had known, and had refused to tell me that this disease I was working against was actually created by our own country?
I raked my hands through my hair, not being able to believe what had actually been going on under my nose the entire time. I shook my head in denial, trying to move past this but it was so hard. I just couldn't get over it, and I couldn't get over the fact that the two people I trusted most in this goddamn facility had been keeping something this big from me the entire time!
I stood then, realizing I needed to head back because I had a dying girlfriend that was sick with a fucking disease someone else created on purpose.
I walked swiftly through the empty hallway, realizing it was probably later than I had assumed. I stepped into the elevator, punching the button that was labeled Lab and waiting patiently. I knew I couldn't storm into the Lab like I wanted, and I would have to stop myself from attempting to fry Roger because he didn't tell me about the government.
I just couldn't believe it.
The doors opened and the first person I saw was Henson, and he looked as if he had been waiting for me. He had no idea I knew about what was going on, but I figured Max had told him what I had ordered him to.
He sighed, "Andrea, I have a vaccine ready."
I nodded solemnly, trying to keep my emotions in check, "Ok."
I followed him to Avery's room, seeing her frail body curled up under her covers. I walked up to her, kneeling and placing my hand on her shoulder. I whispered silently, "Avery..."
She was still, and for some reason this scared me more than usual. I whispered again, more loud this time, "Avery."
She was still, and I took in her body. Was she even breathing? She had been fine this morning when I had checked up on her, hadn't she? I stood, walking over to the other side of the bed where she was facing, and I realized her eyes were actually wide open. Henson spoke, "Andrea, move."
I looked up at him and did as I was told as he placed two fingers on her neck, checking for a pulse. He looked up at me frantically, "Her hearts not beating."
My chest tightened in response, and for some reason I felt as if I was dying in this very moment. I rushed back to her side, looking up at Henson, "Henson, what do I do."
He placed the vile of medicine on a table, running back over to where Avery was connected to a bunch of tubes. He pulled a bag of medicine out of the closet and connected it to one of her IV's, and then looked at me, "We need to get her heart started again, right now."
I held out my hands then, feeding from the electricity in this room and allowing it to course through my body. I looked at Henson, "How much?"
He watched my palms light up with electricity in complete amazement, shaking his head, "Not much, you'll kill her if you do that."
I felt my heart beat frantically in my chest as I place both my hands over her chest, knowing that this might hurt her permanently. I looked at Henson for the ok to do it, and he nodded slowly, indicating for me to shock her heart.
