The call rang in his head for the next two days or so. Her voice was still soft and almost like a melody. He was taking care of her and his daughter.
"Taylor, my office." Captain Desmond said as he walked in. Following the man that he had been looking up to as a mentor and a father-figure for the past two months. "How you doin' kid?" He asked, his eyes directly on him.
The young man shrugged. "Tired." He said.
His mind had been racing when Rebecca's uncle came back around. The two had talked and he had admitted that he was wrong, got help and wanted to be in his niece's life.
"She and I met the day that you had broken her heart." He said, his voice soft. "I apologized, told her everything that I told you and that's when she started crying." The older man's face fell.
It had hurt Dean that he was the reason for her pain, her running away and now her kidnapping. He knew that she was an adult but he didn't want her to be surrounded by danger.
"That girl deserves nothing but the best. I treated her like shit and she doesn't deserve that." He said, tears coming down his face. "She told me how good you were to her in the beginning and her father used to treat her mother like a queen, my brother was like you. Only difference, he didn't break her heart."
Jace stared at the man in surprise.
"Fix this."
"Dean called and said that he has some private detective connections that can help you." Desmond said, his eyes watching the young man's every move.
His eyes opened slower every time he blinked, his attention wasn't on the words that had come out of the captain's mouth and his mind constantly going to what the private detectives could find.
"She called me," Jace whispered to his younger brother. Alex's head snapped over to his older sibling, in shock. "She didn't tell me anything. I even tried tracking the number she called me from but it's a burner." He said.
Alexander looked at his older brother and smiled a little thinking about Rebecca.
"She obviously found a way to get a phone so she can contact you." He said, making Jace stop and think.
She had. Her body hadn't appeared, no video or message from Finn. She had something planned. She was going to come back. Jace thought to himself. He smiled widely as he not only thought about the girl of his dreams but how smart their child would be whether it was a boy or girl. But he wanted to have a girl.
"What if I don't meet 'em?" He asked, the mood immediately turning once more. He didn't want to miss a single moment of his child's life. He wanted to be there for everything.
When they crawl for the first time, walks, goes to school, to prom, has their first heartbreak, getting married and starting a family of their own. He wanted to be the dad that his father was to him.
"You will. Have faith, man." His younger brother said, patting him on the shoulder and then going inside the house. Their older brother had yet to hear about their father and that was added stress to Jace.
He didn't know what to expect from his brothers. Alexander was ready to find Finn at whatever cost, to avenge the murder of his father. But Evan, he was quiet when angry, too quiet.
RIIIINNNGGG.
His phone snapped him out of his thoughts. The number was unknown and his heartbeat began to speed up.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Hey J." She said, her voice tired. His brows furrowed in concern. "Stop worrying, I'm fine. Just a little tired." He chuckled at the fact that she still knew him.
