[ IMPORTANT AUTHOR'S NOTE AT THE END!]
Chapter is dedicated to @NutellaxMonster685. Thank you for the love and votes. You've given me some inspirations for my past couple of chapters with all the love and I thank you. I hope you enjoy this chapter and I hope you'll be there for the last book.
Rebecca froze as she heard those words.
Finn was missing. He had escaped and could do anything he wanted. He could come after her family.
She looked at Jace, his face becoming a relief. She walked into his arms and he hugged her tightly.
"I won't let him touch you." He said, his voice filled with finality. She nodded but couldn't help but feel as if Finn was going to make their lives a living hell. Something wasn't right.
Kathryn's phone ringing caused everyone to look at her desk. She answered the phone, putting it on speaker.
"Well, would you fucking look at this. You finally figured it out." Jacob's voice sneered into the speaker. "I was fucking 5 when I found out. I knew something was strange. Finn didn't feel right, the name didn't fit me, knowing that after Jace was the one that Tanya kept, she didn't love me. She didn't tell him. When she left, I didn't feel bad but also, it didn't amount to the pain I felt... The abandonment I felt. I wanted it all."
Everyone's heart dropped.
"I'm going to take everything from you Jace. I won't tell you when and I won't give you anymore clues. This is the beginning of the end."
The line went dead. Rebecca was frozen. She knew what Fi- Jacob could do. She had seen his eyes filled with sinister content when he killed Henderson. She had seen how happy he was to her reaction when he had shown her his over-killed parents.
"Is he bluffing?" Jace asked, truly not knowing about his half-brother.
"No." Rebecca answered, her voice sending chills down everyone's spine. They knew that she knew. The things she had been through, the way her eyes filled with slight fear of his name. She knew.
This was going to be bigger. This was going to be worse.
"Does this mean more bodies are gonna start dropping because if that's the case, this fucker needs to die now or we die trying." William said, the threat in his tone sending a flare of warmth through Rebecca.
Though she didn't like the fact that he was willingly putting his life on the line against a psychopath, she did admire the young detective for what he was doing for her and how protective he was.
"We need to find him and end this." Zander said, standing by Kathryn. She nodded but said nothing. Everyone began talking about what they could do all the while, Rebecca and Kathryn made eye contact.
The younger brunette walked over to her aunt and they both began talking about the possibilities.
"I know what to do." Rebecca said. The room fell silent. Kathryn motioned for everyone to leave the office that wasn't Jace or Zander. Nicolas was to be briefed after they talked.
"We need to act normal. Act like we don't think he's going to do anything. He's not as smart as he thinks. With him being out, drugs are an easy access which means he's going to be fucked up beyond words can describe." Rebecca began, everyone holding onto every word that she was saying. "Cocaine and heroine are his go-to's. He is going to be so blinded by anger and the effects of the drugs, he won't see that we're watching him."
"How do you expect us to know what's his schedule is going to be like?" Zander asked, skepticism laced in his tone.
Rebecca scoffed and looked at him in his eyes. "Did you forget who had to be his shadow for almost a year?"
He fell silent after that, knowing that she was right. She had been right there every second when she wasn't sleeping. She saw the drugs he did, what he did and knew how he would act. Zander then smirked at the girl.
"You really are like Kathryn. Maybe you'll work here one day." He said. She flushed at the compliment and mumbled 'thank you'.
Jace bounced his wailing daughter up and down but nothing was soothing to her. She was just crying.
"Come on baby girl, what's wrong?" He asked stressed out. Rebecca and her aunt went to meet with the family members that they thought they buried and it was taking a toll on Jace. The moment Rebecca was gone, Mackenzie cried.
She wasn't used to father, if anyone was being honest. With being at work and his girlfriend taking care of her whenever he locked himself away in his home office, she was used to Rebecca.
"She's hungry." A younger voice said behind him.
He turned around and immediately cradled his daughter to him. The girl looked exactly like Rebecca but younger. He knew who she was and he glared causing the youngest of the Abel family to flinch.
"Did you watch her leave and then decide to come in here?" He asked, his voice laced with venom. They had hurt Rebecca. Broken her heart when she thought that they were gone but it was all a lie.
Rosemarie sighed heavily. She looked at the baby that was in his arms and saw her sister and smiled gently.
"I wanted to tell her." She said. Jace scoffed and went to the fridge that was in the nursery, grabbed a bottle of pumped milk and quickly used the bottle warmer. "My parents told me not to. I told her everything and nothing being able to tell her that we were going to fake our deaths because of a goddamn job my parents hid from us, that killed me." She said, her voice hard and filled with a rage that Jace had only seen in one other person.
Her sister.
"You watched her suffer. You watched your uncle do all those things to her and did nothing. I'm not going to get guilt tripped by some little girl. You could have found a way safe way to tell her." He said, his voice calm as he fed his daughter.
The girl watched as her sister's boyfriend cradled their daughter so gently as if he was afraid to break her. She watched the love and adoration he had for the small baby that was in his arms.
"Protect them because Fi-," Rosemarie was interrupted.
"Jacob. His name is Jacob and we know. He's going to try and kill her." Jace said, his tone dismissive, letting her know to stop talking about in front of Mackenzie.
"You love my sister?" She asked, knowing exactly what he should do. It was the best thing for everyone. Her mother had told her all the she needed to know about Finn
He nodded. She then told him what he should do. Though he didn't completely agree and knew that it wasn't going to have the greatest outcome, he agreed.
Rebecca rushed home, something not feeling right. Kathryn ran after her niece, confused as to why she was running so quickly into her home.
"Mackenzie?" She called out to her infant daughter, even though the little girl couldn't actually use words, the little baby made a noise.
The brunette walked into the nursery, Jace no where in sight and went to her daughter. Inside her crib, was a piece of paper addressed to her.
Becks,
I'm so sorry but I have to do this. I have to protect you and Mackenzie. Don't call, I've thrown my phone away. Don't look for me, you won't find me.
I love you. I always have and I always will. Thank you for our daughter. Thank you for being so strong. Thank you.
I love you,
Jace
