*Tick* *Tick* *Tick*
My eyes moved towards the clock hanging on the office wall, noticing only two minutes have passed since the last time I checked the time.
"Ugh."
It was a hot summer day. L and I were given a shit ton of cases to work on. None being as close to as difficult as Light's case. In fact, they were quite easy to solve. Of course, being the amazing person I am, I finished my half of the cases in just three hours. Now I'm stuck sitting in this office until I'm given permission to leave. Why should I be given permission to do anything? I'm one of the greatest detectives in the world. I don't have to listen to anyone! Is what I'd like to say.... but we all know that's not true. Plus, I don't want to risk losing my job, so I have no choice but to follow these foolish rules they give to us. I was debating whether or not to help someone with their case or to take a long deserved nap. However, neither of those sounded fun. I guess L could use some of my help with his cases, but that would be too much work. Besides. if I were to help L I would need to stand up from my seat, and I'm quite comfortable where I am. My mind craved creativity and movement. If I stay here any longer I think I'm gonna die from boredom! I wanted to do something exciting.... like play an extreme game of tennis. Or dodgeball. Should I try convincing L into going outside with me after work? He'd most likely refuse, considering it was over 90 degrees outside. Or maybe because he knows I'd beat him. How humiliating that would be. To him, that is.
I turned to face the clock and saw that another two minutes have passed. Why are the minutes going by so slowly? Someone please come and take me out of my misery. I leaned against my chair, groaning as I realized there was still four more hours until I would be able to go back to my dorm and spend the rest of my day playing Fire Emblem on my 3ds.
"(Y/N)." L called out, not taking his eyes off the computer screen.
"Yeah, L?" I asked, shifting my eyes from the clock handles to L.
"Can you please pass me that plate of strawberry cake that's on the coffee table?"
I glared at L for what seemed to be the fourth time that day. L had a habit of going to the private kitchen to get cake then forgetting it who knows where. What's worse is that he makes me stand up and get it for him! The coffee table was way closer to him than it is to me, too. I groaned once again and stood up from my very comfortable spot on my chair to hand L his cake. L grabbed the plate from my hand without taking his eyes off the computer screen, then placed it on his desk. I stood there, waiting for him to say something, but not a single word came from his mouth. I let out a loud sigh before returning back to my chair, shifting around to find the comfortable spot that was once present before L had made me stand up. "L," I called out. The strange boy hummed, signaling that he was listening. I cleared my throats and stayed quiet. He seemed to have gotten the hint because in a matter of seconds he finally faced away from his computer screen and locked eyes with me.
"Yes, (Y/N)?" He responded, in a low tone.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, preparing myself for the small speech that is taking me a lot of courage to say. If I don't tell him this now, things may never change. How devastating that would be. "Listen," I started off. "You need to get rid of that annoying habit of yours. You can't go bossing me around as if I were some slave. Next time you want a plate of cake get off your lazy ass and get it yourself. I can't continue doing things for you like this." As his successor, I feel extremely overwhelmed. I know he doesn't make me do chores for him because I'm at a lower level than him, but sometimes I can't help but feel like that's the case. All that's left to do is for me to tell him exactly how I feel.
