The Masons

-Hal: We need to keep moving

It was the second night after Maggie's incident, they decided to wait for her injuries to heal, they weren't deep, and that second night she was well and strong enough to get back to the road and kick some asses.

They were in front of a bonfire inside the cave they found days before, keeping themselves warm, Maggie was packing the things with Hal's help, and little Matt was just sleeping. Ben however was just sitting in one of the rocks inside the cave, staring at the fire, thinking about that dream (or what he called the nightmare) he got a few moments before. Was it not only a dream? Was it a sign? or .. A calling for help from Charlie? Everything felt and looked real, different from other dreams. For sure, Ben's unconscious could create that by his own, but since he was different, since aliens didn't existed for humans months ago, he thought he need it to take this serious.

The nightmare was scary for him, he couldn't stop thinking about it, about every second that he passed in there, he relived it at all times on his mind, he felt useless in that moment, looking at the harness on Charlotte's neck, looking at the red eye besides her, controlling her, he felt useless and stupid for just stand there shouting "no", just like he did when they killed his mother.

Hal notice it, of course Ben didn't talk about his dream, but what Maggie said , or the worm, about Ben issue , about him wanting to get killed disturb Hal in some way, he wanted to heal his brother. Hal notice the sad look on his brother face, so he got closer to him, sitting by his side.

-Hal: I'm sorry about Charlotte.

Ben didn't answer, he didn't even turned to face his brother, he just kept staring at the fire, like somehow the answer he was looking was going to came out from there.

-Hal: Listen, i really don't know what to say. Do you really want to get yourself kill?

The last word made Ben turn to look at Hal.

-Ben: I don't know what i want.. I don't even know who i am anymore.

-Hal: Well, you are Ben Mason, my brother. We'll be with Dad soon, the Masons together again, with the second mass resistance.. ending this war.

-Ben: Hal i need...

-Hal: No! Do not even think about it.

-Ben: I need to find her Hal.

-Hal: No, you need to be with us. You don't even know where she is or if she's still alive.

-Ben: I'm connected with them, i know i can find her. Hal, tell me you wouldn't do the same if it was Maggie out there. Tell me Dad wouldn't do the same if it was mom.

-Hal: He did, and he found her Dead.

-Ben: This is personal Hal, I need this, not only because i care for her. The red eye started a war against me, i need to end it so i can help end the big one.

-Hal: The aliens have something against us the Masons, you said it, and we can defeat them together! We have a clue on dad, we get him, and then we find Charlotte, i promise.

-Ben: It will be too late Hal! Please, for once, trust me on this!

While they were having this conversation, the tone of their voices started to grow, and that last line woke Matt up, he felt like the old times when his brothers were fighting each other all the time, but this time was different, and of course, his mother wasn't there to stopped them.

-Hal: It's ok Matt, we are leaving soon, get ready.

-Matt: Is Ben not coming?

Ben stood up, walking to the place his younger brother was sitting, he bent in front of Matt.

-Ben: I need to help Charlie.

-Matt: Where is She?

Ben sighed, and he realize that he didn't know, if the dream was connected, the dream wasn't telling him her location, unless it did. He didn't had a clue, and in some way Hal had a point for not letting him go, but it was just wrong, Charlotte got stuck in this war against the red eye because of Ben, because he loved her, and that insect wanted to show Ben that everyone he loved dies. Maybe it was an option, maybe he did think about giving up, ending his life so others wouldn't have to. But Charlotte needed him, and he knew his family too, but if he learned something from them, is that the Masons always found a way to keep fighting, doing the right thing, they were strong, and they were going to end it, even if they were apart.

-Ben: An alien has her, she is in danger, just like Dad, but she doesn't have anyone to rescue her, and she's scared. Dad will have you, Hal and Maggie, meanwhile i will be rescuing her, and then we'll be back together.

-Matt: You promise?

-Ben: I promise.

It was then that Hal noticed it, he noticed that he needed to let go of his brother to save not only Charlotte, but to Ben to save himself. It broke him somehow, because he knew that it could probably be a long journey, and he will lose his brother one more time for a while, but he will not lose him forever or to the aliens. He knew that for sure.

Ben stood up after giving Matt a hug and then he headed to where Hal was standing.

-Ben: I'm doing this Hal.

-Hal: You realize we could probably not see each other again, right?

-Ben: We will. But i know it will be in a long time.

-Hal: Fine. If this fight is over we'll meet at our old house, Ben promise me you will not give up. The world needs someone like you, i'm lucky to have you as my brother.

Ben smiled, and the look between the Masons brothers was just as Magical, as true love, as staring to the sky full of stars. They hugged each other, a long and beautiful hug.

-Hal: Take this, i stole it when you came back with Charlotte, but now i want you to hold on to that picture, to us, your family.

Hal gave his brother the picture Ben had on his backpack when he left the first time, it was an old family Photo.

-Ben: We'll see each other again.

-Hal: I know.

Ben started walking to the exit of the cave, looking at the picture, when he found Maggie at the exit.

-Maggie: Don't get kill.

-Ben: Don't let them take you. Please take care of them, i know you will though.

-Maggie: Always...

Ben and Maggie hugged each other, Maggie wasn't the enemy,she was family now.

And so Ben started his journey, back again on his way to revenge, but this time was different, he was going to save the love of his life, and he was going to please his anger. Get ready Red eye.
