The Aftermath

"Yes, yes! A pixie cut is perfect. Dont straighten out the waves in my hair though, I know it'll be messy, but I really like it that way." Millie went on with a smile.
The hair dresser laughed politely. "You'll look great, Miss. But wouldnt it be harder for you hair stylist?"
"Hmm." She thought out loud. "I think it would be easier this way. I want to keep it simple. Anyway, my new movie's encouraging me to cut my hair too for my role, so i presume it's fine." She grinned.
After a few minutes of snipping and cutting, and playing games on her phone, the hair dresser gave a giggle and tapped her shoulder shyly. "It's done Miss," she said while looking adoringly at Millie.
Millie's eyes sparkled as she saw her reflection in the mirror. "Oh my God, its perfect!" She exclaimed gleefully while twirling around. She hugged Hayacnthe, the hairdresser. Hayacnthe's eyes widened and she awkwardly patted the teenager's back.
"Thank you lots," Millie said and gave a smile. She took out a hundred dollar bill and gave it to Hayacnthe. "Thats tip," she said giddily. Hayacnthe's eyes widened in surprise as she shook her head.
"No maam, i dont accept tips." She said shyly, but Millie had placed it in her hands and strode to the counter.
;
Millie grabbed her purse-- plainly silver-- she took her phone out and saw a notification.
Her nails had just been manicured yesterday, and she felt very light about it. It was midnight blue, simple and plain, just the way she liked it.
Kelly also bought her a new phone case, one with shades of blue that reminded her of the sea. Her fingers taled upon them, and she smiled thinly.
A missed call and a few messages got her attention. Surprised, it was Noah who was on the other side of the line.
"Hello?" She spoke.
"Millie?"
After 3 months, and a bit more, they hadnt talked. Hearing his voice was like hearing a 70s song; confused whether to like it or not.
"Hey, Noah! Its been such a long time.." she awkwardly giggled, fiddling with her purse's zipper.
Noah let out a sigh. "I know," his voice was also uncomfortable, just like hers. "I'd rather we meet than catch up on the phone, dont you think?" Millie could feel the smile in his voice.
"Sure, tomorrow's good," she replied.
It's weird to talk to someone you felt close with before in such a distant manner.
;
Millie had planned her schedule for the day. After the haircut, she would go to the mall to shop-- how she missed it. It may be kind of vain, but she had promised herself on a budget.
Going through her favorite boutiques and apparel lines, she spotted a beautiful dress. It was a peach colored dress, exposing her shoulders. She smiled and took it, going to the fitting room and twirling in the mirror. It hugged her body perfectly.
Millie found herself wearing the peach off shoulder dress at her meet up with Noah.
"Woah," he said with wide eyes. "You cut your hair."
Millie bit her lip.
"Is it bad?" She asked, her hands finding its way to her hair, which she had tucked away with a white headband.
"Not at all," he wavered assuringly. "Its beautiful. Just surprised, thats all." He said genuinely.
Millie sighed of relief. "Good, i thought that it looked silly." She laughed.
They decided to go to Starbucks, to grab a frappucino and a pastry and catch up.
"I've always loved the coffee aroma," she said, inhaling.
Noah smiled. "Me too. Come on and order," he said with a playful nudge.
After getting their orders, they found a comfortable seat near the window.
"How are you?" Was what came out of his mouth first. Millie coughed on her cookie. "Fine, thanks. Really fine actually." She answered. "And you?"
"Okay as well. Nothing changed however." He said with a smile that didnt show his pearly teeth.
The awkwardness cleared up when they talked about the farm. It gave Millie eagerness to talk about it and Noah listened with the same energy.
She had been babbling all about it, and Noah tried to pay attention. But all he could focus on was Millie's eyes, her lips, her face, her hair, and her gorgeous features.
;
"Im worried about Finn, Charlie. I know that he's strong, but.." Natalia's voice trailed on like a rope being pulled. "Its the first time Ive seen him this depressed and devastated. He wouldnt even eat breakfast at the hall."
Charlie scratched his head, his eyes sad. He too,missed the cheery boy. For almost a week, Finn had locked up in his room, refusing to eat at the halls. He would eat a small amount of food, and his body was getting frail by the day.
Joann and Killian were more than worried. They couldnt do anything, no matter how they tried. He made a boundary within everyone and himself, an invisible one formed out of regret and sorrow.
But one day, Finn Wolfhard told himself that it was time; time to change, time to break that wall he had built, time to live again, and time to accept things. And he did.
