We're just friends

Luke hurried downstairs. He was eager to get to Vic's house. The parties at his house were always great and he was hoping to see Ashton. It had been a week since he'd seen or heard from him. He wasn't responding to his texts. Luke worried that Jack was the reason.

Ashton stood sipping on his drink while Jack and Alex laughed and joked around.

If Ashton was being completely honest with himself he was jealous of Alex. He was always making Jack laugh and the two flirted a lot. But the one time Ashton brought it up it had caused a huge fight so Ashton didn't mention it again.

Luke scanned the room hoping to spot the gorgeous guy that had been on his mind all week.

"Are you looking for Ashton?" Calum asked frowning.

"Yeah." Luke shrugged.

"Luke." Calum sighed.

"Cal, we're just friends, chill." Luke spoke reassuringly.

Luke wandered outside in hopes of finding him out there.

Ashton saw the familiar blonde walk onto the patio. Ashton felt his heart race.

"Babe, I'm gonna go get another drink." Ashton said touching Jack's arm gently. Jack didn't even acknowledge him.

Ashton hurried away hoping to hide in a large group nearby.

Luke wandered a bit when he spotted Jack. Luke felt his heart race he scanned the area eagerly.

His heart skipped when he saw the honey haired blonde.

"Ashton." Luke called. Ashton turned at the sound of his name before bolting in the opposite direction.

"Ashton, wait." Luke managed to catch Ashton's arm.

"Where are you going?" Luke asked a hurt expression covering his usually happy features.

Ashton felt bad. It wasn't Luke's fault Ashton couldn't stop thinking about him.

"Did I do something?" Luke asked frowning.

"No, no, not at all." Ashton put a comforting hand on Luke's arm.

"You haven't been answering my calls or texts and you're obviously trying to avoid me." Luke pointed out.

"I know, I'm sorry." Ashton didn't know what to say.

"Is it because of Jack?" Luke asked the hurt still evident on his face.

"No. I mean sort of. I don't really know." Ashton bowed his head shamefully.

"What's going on?" Luke demanded gently.

"I don't know." Ashton sighed heavily.

"Ash, you can tell me anything." Luke urged sweetly.

"Damn it, Luke, why do you have to be so sweet?" Ashton swore in annoyance.

"I-I don't understand." Luke frowned.

"I don't think we should be friends." Ashton said suddenly.

"What? Why?" Luke asked hurt. He felt like he's been smacked in the face.

"It-It's complicated." Ashton shifted uncomfortably.

"Have I done something? If so I'm sorry." Luke apologized.

Ashton felt sick. He saw the confusion and hurt on Luke's face. He didn't know what to say.

"I-you-" Ashton struggled to come up with a reason that wasn't the truth.

"Ashton, please. I've really enjoyed getting to know you and I don't want this to end." Luke spoke up again.

"Why? Why have you enjoyed getting to know me? Why don't you want this to end?" Ashton asked.

"Because I like you. You're fun and nice and-"

"Stop." Ashton interrupted Luke.

"Did I say something wrong?" Luke frowned. He was so confused.

"No, I just...I know how Jack gets when I get close to new people. I really enjoy being your friend but-"
Ashton trailed off looking down at his hands.

"You think I'm going to cause problems for you two." Luke finished a hint of hurt in his tone.

"I love him and I don't want to lose him." Ashton answered.

"We're just friends." Luke said sadly.

"But Jack doesn't know that." Ashton sighed.

"Does he have to know?" Luke asked.

"He's obviously okay with Calum. Just tell him you're with him." Luke hoped Ashton would agree.

"I don't know." Ashton shifted nervously.

"Please? I really like being around you. Plus we have so much fun together." Luke recalled the day they spent on the beach.

"You are a lot of fun to hang around." Ashton admitted.

Luke gave a hopeful smile.

Ashton knew he should probably stick to his plan to keep his distance from Luke but the look on his face made Ashton give in.

"Okay, but let's keep this from Jack as much as possible please." Ashton sighed.

Luke gave a large grin that Ashton couldn't help but return. This boy had Ashton wrapped around his finger and he didn't even realize it.
