Ashton woke the next morning to an empty room. He sat up looking around. He pulled his pants on and Luke's shirt before making his way to the living room.
"Hey, Ash." Luke said hopping up from the couch.
"Hey." Ashton smiled shyly.
"How are you feeling?" Luke asked as be neared Ashton.
"Better, just sore." Ashton answered.
"It's definitely a nasty bruise but it should heal soon." Luke said touching Ashton's bruised cheek gently.
Ashton only nodded.
"Oh, umm, your phone has gone off a couple times. I didn't check it." Luke said handing the device over to Ashton.
"Thanks." Ashton sighed taking his phone.
Ashton read over the texts from Jack. They started off harsh and demanding but got progressively more concerned and sweet.
Ashton took a deep breaths before calling Jack.
"Ashton, where are you? I've been worried sick!" Jack's voice answered hurriedly.
"I'm at Calum's." Ashton answered.
"Look, I'm sorry I hit you, that was completely uncalled for." Jack apologized.
Ashton didn't respond.
"Please come home? I want to talk about this." Jack pleaded.
"I don't know Jack, everything about last night was really upsetting. I just feel like you care more about Alex than me." Ashton spoke trying to hold back tears.
"That's not true. You know I love you. Alex is just a friend." Jack disagreed.
"Let's meet for lunch. We can talk about it then. Please?" Jack asked.
Ashton was surprised he wasn't being rude or demanding. Maybe he really was sorry.
"Okay, I'll text you when I leave." Ashton agreed.
"Okay. See you soon."
Ashton hung up the phone and saw Luke frowning at him.
"You're going back to him?" Luke asked in a disapproving tone.
"We're meeting for lunch to talk about what happened." Ashton answered.
"You're gonna forgive him aren't you?" Luke huffed.
"I love him, Luke." Ashton answered sadly.
"But does he love you?" Luke asked.
"He says he does." Ashton nodded.
"Yeah, I can tell by the bruise on your cheek." Luke snapped.
"He apoligized." Ashton said looking down.
"He's so controlling. He treats you like crap." Luke scoffed.
Ashton sighed.
"I'm just sayin'." Luke shrugged.
"It's just how he is." Ashton had gotten his shoes and was walking towards the door.
"Thanks for taking care of me. I'll text you later, okay?" Ashton said biting his lip.
"Yeah, okay." Luke sighed.
Ashton walked out.
"Hey, Ash." Luke spoke from the door.
Ashton turned to look at Luke.
"If you need anything call me."
Ashton smiled before walking away.
Luke sighed as he closed the door. He so badly hoped Ashton would break up with Jack but deep down he knew that wasn't going to happen.
-
Ashton had sent Jack a text saying to meet him at Maia's cafe. He was currently waiting for Jack nervously. He thought about what Luke had said about Jack being controlling. He had friends tell him that before but he never believed it. Jack was just cautious and protective.
"Ashton." Jack said in a relieved tone as we walked over to the table. Ashton stood up and allowed Jack to pull him into a tight hug.
"I'm so sorry." Jack apologized pulling back and inspecting Ashton's cheek.
"I promise never to hurt you like that again." Jack said gently before placing his lips on Ashton's.
Ashton pulled back gently.
"We should talk about what happened." Ashton sighed sitting back down.
"We know what happened. I love you, not Alex. He's my best friend. I'm okay with you hanging around Calum." Jack pointed out.
Ashton bit his lip. He did have a point.
"Okay, I believe you." Ashton nodded.
Jack smiled before taking a seat across from Ashton.
"Good."
-
Luke waited two hours before he text Ashton to see how things went with Jack. He knew he'd forgiven him but he still hoped he hadn't.
"Hey, Ash, just wanted to see how things went with Jack."
Ashton responded quickly.
"Good. We talked, he apologized. Everything is back to normal."
Luke sighed. He expected that answer yet he couldn't help but feel disappointed.
"Are you doing okay?" Luke asked unable to fake being happy for them.
"Yeah, I'm doing great. Thank you for everything, Luke."
"Of course. I'll always be here for you." Luke sent the text. He wanted to tell Ashton how he really felt but was afraid he'd push him away.
