Just Sayin'

Michael pulled Calum behind as they reached the beach.

"Hey, hold on. I want Luke and Ash to go on ahead."

"What? Why?" Calum frowned tossing a glance at the two in front of them.

"This is where they really got to know each other, I think it'll help them...you know...reconnect." Michael shrugged.

Calum looked thoughtful for a moment.

"You think they both still have feelings for each other?" Calum asked.

"I know Ashton does and I'm fairly certain Luke does." Michael nodded.

"Okay, let's get them together then." Calum agreed smiling.

Ashton shifted awkwardly as Luke set his chair down.

"Do you want to go for a walk maybe?" Ashton asked with a hopeful look in his eyes.

Luke nodded.

"Sure."

Ashton tossed Michael and Calum a nervous smile as he turned to walk along side Luke.

"So do you still not remember anything from last night?" Ashton asked after the two had walked far enough so Calum and Michael were out of earshot.

Luke sighed.

"Some of it came back to me earlier"

"Oh? That's good, right? W-what did you remember?" Ashton asked nervously.

"Ashton, I don't want to do this right now." Luke huffed.

"Do what? What are you talking about?" Ashton frowned at the blonde.

"I know what you're doing but I can't do this. I can't be hurt again. I just lost Alex to Jack. I tried to give you a chance already." Luke stopped and turned to Ashton his tone stressed.

Ashton looked crushed.

"You really don't want to be with me do you?" Ashton asked with tears in his eyes.

"I want to be with you more than anything, Ashton, but I can't." Luke sighed.

"Look I meant what I said last night, I do love you but I shouldn't have said it. I'm sorry." Luke turned to leave but Ashton grabbed his hand.

"Do you remember when we got icee's from that vendor over there?" Ashton pointed to a concession stand.

"The birds chased us down the beach cause they thought we had food. You dropped yours so we shared mine. I told you Jack never did that kind of thing with me. It was our anniversary. You made me have a good time and forget what it was like to be ignored and underappreciated. You made me so happy that I started to question my 'perfect' relationship with Jack. I didn't know what I wanted until I met you. And it took some time for me to give up on Jack and I'm so sorry for it. But that day with you is when I realized Jack didn't love me the way I loved him. I remember thinking to myself that night, if Luke was this amazing as my friend what would it be like to be with him? Then that day on the stairs. I knew I was falling for you. It scared the hell out of me. And I tried to give Jack another chance despite what he had done. I pushed you in the arms of someone else. I was an idiot but things are different now. I love you with every part of me. I couldn't imagine being with anyone else. And you say you don't want to be hurt again, but I promise I will never do anything to hurt you, not ever." Ashton wiped away the few tears that had slipped from his eyes while he was talking.

Luke stood, silent.

Ashton bit his lip and nodded.

"I get it, you don't want this. But hopefully that'll change one day and when it does I'll be here. Cause there will never be anyone else but you." Ashton turned then.

Suddenly Ashton felt himself being pulled back. Before he could register what was going on, Luke's lips were pressed firmly against Ashton's.

Ashton wrapped his arms around Luke holding onto him desperately as if he might disappear.

Luke finally pulled back with a smile.

"I can't say no to you. Just sayin'"
