Today wasn't the day that I wanted my life to change, but we don't always get what we want. I remember the blinding light that appeared just before my eyes closed for a while.
~13 years later...~
"Doctor! Hurry she's awake! But something's wrong!"
I looked around the room. I could smell the bleach and disinfectant. The only out of place smell was barbecue. I stared at the nurse who was hiding behind a chair across the room.
"Excuse me mss, but is there any barbecue around? I'm so hungry."
She continued to stare at me, but no longer with a look of fear. Instead it was curiosity. She walked out of the room and I could hear her talking to a couple of people outside the door. It was weird though because I could hear them clearly even though the door was shut.
"Trust me doctor, she's strange."
"How so?"
"She asked if there was barbecue because she could smell it."
"Interesting, please lead the way."
The nurse came back into the room with the doctor in tow. He looked at the nurse and smiled nicely then nodded.
"Sweetie, there's no barbecue here in the hospital, but there is a restaurant that sells barbecue at least 20 miles away from here."
I looked at them confused and felt something move softly against my head. The doctor and nurse gave each other a horror filled look and started quietly talking to each other. Although they were whispering as quietly as possible I could hear everything they were saying.
~"What do we do doctor? Should we call the police?"~
~"Honestly I'm not sure who we call."~
~"What about Nate Biggs?"~
~"Where did they find her again?"~
~"They didn't find her anywhere. One of the nurses came in 13 years ago and she was laying in one of the patient beds in torn up clothes."~
~"And she just woke up today like it was nothing?"~
~"Yes."~
~"Go ahead and call Nate Biggs."~
I looked at them scared while the nurse left the room and started dialing her phone. I tried to get up from my bed when the doctor gasped. I stood still and that's when I felt a soft movement against the back of my legs. The doctor walked up to me and placed his hand on my shoulder. The nurse walked in and looked at me with wide eyes when she looked behind me. The doctor shook his head no and looked back towards me.
"Sweetheart, uhm, you can't leave just yet. We don't even know who to contact to let them know you're okay. Do you have any relatives we can call?"
Just as I was about to answer nurse spoke up.
"He's right and now that you're awake to tell us these things we also need your name."
I looked at both of them and sat down in complete defeat. I didn't remember anything about myself. Just sitting there before them made everything confusing. Suddenly a soft know came at the door. The doctor looked at the nurse annoyed as she just shrugged.
"Maybe its him."
She opened the door and as I tried to look past her, but the doctor quickly grabbed me and placed a mask over my eyes and something over my hair as he laid me back down on the bed. Everything around me sounded so clear, but with the thing over my head everything was beginning to sound distorted and distant. I tried to focus when I heard an unfamiliar voice talking to the doctor.
"I'm here to speak to the patient of course. I have a few questions she needs to answer in private."
The energy in the room shifted and grew cold. Finally I heard footsteps sound against the floor and the door shut. I was alone with this random stranger and I was scared. I could smell that something was off about this man, but also something familiar. Weight settled onto my bed and my masked was removed. Before me stood a boy not much older than myself it looked like.
"Do you remember me Vixen?"
I stared at the boy longer. He had black hair with an orange streak in it. I could see tattoos on his arms underneath his sleeves. His hazel eyes looked so familiar, felt so familiar, but I had never seen him in my life. At least, not that I could remember anyways. I nodded my head no, but he looked at me with this gaze that I didn't recognize. I was so stumped and confused on how to feel about him or anything that was going on. Just then a knock came at the door and it opened to reveal the doctor and two men in uniforms. I looked back at the end of my bed to see that the boy from before was gone, vanished into thin air.
"There she is, there was a man in here with her, but I guess he's gone. Anyways my dear, we still need your name. These men here are here to help you."
I looked over to the man in front. He looked to be about the same age as the boy from moments ago. His name tag said 'Nate Biggs'. I looked back up at him as he started walking towards me. Suddenly the other man grabbed the doctor and snapped his neck. The sound was so clear, as if I had headphones and the sound was coming right out into my ears. It made me want to puke. I got up, hoping I could make it out the window and back outside, but Nate grabbed me in his arms and held me tight. I began kicking and twisting myself, but his grip was too strong for me to break loose. I was about to make another attempt to escape his arms when he placed a rag over my nose and mouth. My eyes began to grow heavy as my body relaxed into his. Little by little the world grew dark and everything was black.
~Inside my mind...~
I looked around and noticed I was standing in a forest. I knew where it was, it was the one I was in a couple days ago, before I went into a deep sleep. I started walking around until I saw an old woman standing in front of me. She had her back to me with long blond hair flowing freely behind her. She was dressed in all black leather, her small skinny figure swayed lightly in the wind. I looked at her when I noticed my hair blowing in the breeze, but it looked different from the medium length dark natural brown hair that I was so used to. I touched the strands, then grabbed a handful to see that it was long and silver. When I looked back up confused the old woman was standing in front of me with bright blue icy eyes staring into mine. She looked so familiar, but I couldn't pinpoint on how and the feeling was gone in an instant. She stared at me so intently until her face relaxed and she placed her hand against my cheek. I closed my eyes as her soft melodic voice whispered to me.
"Vixen, you need to remember. You're in danger. Call out to us, you need our help."
I opened my eyes again to see a mirror sitting in front of me instead of the woman. It was my reflection, but I didn't look the same anymore. My medium length brown hair was replaced with long silver hair, my deep dark eyes were a haunting yellow. On top of my now silver hair were two large wolf like ears and my crooked teeth were now straight with two very canine like incisors. Then out of the corner of my eyes a soft movement was behind me. I turned around and saw a large bushy tail wagging at me in the mirror. I was scared and confused as I backed away from the mirror. Then a feeling inside me started growing and growing. A noise deep down was forming in my throat. When I was far enough I threw my head back and a loud piercing howl escaped from my mouth. When it ended I heard a loud screeching noise and my body jerked towards the mirror and glass shards surrounded me and everything went black again. That's when I knew I wasn't in the forest anymore.
