I watched Novae leave with the woman as the portal closed.
How could he just leave me like that?
I sat down in the grass, staring at the spot Novae had been standing in. Everything was silent until a twig snapped behind me. I stood up quickly when I saw Nate was standing behind me.
"They're scared of you you know."
He nodded in the direction of where everyone escaped through the portals. I stayed silent as I turned my back against him and sat back down. I didn't want to fight him, I just wanted Novae to come back. While I stared out into the woods Nate took a seat beside me. I never really payed attention to him so I took a small side glance at him. His hair was a dirty blonde that stopped at the name of his neck and his bangs landed a centimeter below his eyebrows.
He had bright blue eyes that reminded me of the ocean. His lips made a perfect boy shape. He had a strong jaw that helped frame his face. His shoulders were bulky and looked as if they were being strangled by the grey v-cut shirt he was wearing. He seemed tall by the way his khaki shorts landed exactly at his knees instead of below. He wore black Vans to complete his look.
He had a tattoo on his right arm. It was a picture of an angel crying on top of a grave stone. Nate looked at me with a sly grin as I quickly looked away.
"I'm not scared like them."
I looked up at him and he was staring at the woods.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean while they were running and hiding I'm the one trying to save you and help you."
I looked at him, my anger growing as he just shrugged it off. Then I thought back to what happened when Nate shot at me in the woods upon our original meeting. Novae had taken off without trying to help me. When I woke up he had Novae healing me by force. Novae didn't try to save him by his own free will. Then while Novae was escaping Nate was shooting at him, not me.
Of course he did try to shoot me, but I can now see that was in self defense. Then when I got back to Spirit Realm Novae and that woman had caged me. Nate was right. I looked down at the ground sadly, tears showing my weakness. I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder as I started to sob.
"Its okay princess. I'll take you with me to Grave Angel's headquarters and we'll take care of you. I promise no one will ever hurt you or cage you again."
I looked up at Nate who gave me a genuine sympathetic smile. I stood up with head and headed towards a car that waited near a portal. Nate opened the passenger door as he set me down on the seat. I watched him walk around the front of the vehicle and enter the driver's side. He gave me a small smile as we drove through the portal. I looked in the side view mirror to notice that the manor was gone and in its place a large hole.
