The Big Question
***********************************************************************************************************
We were all sat down at the dinner table. Logan to my left, my dad directly across from him, and my mother directly across from me. My dad insisted that Logan stay for dinner...so he did and I was pretty happy about that. They seemed to be getting along pretty well which wasn't too much of a surprise since Logan is Logan. The sweet, charming, soft-hearted, blue-eyed guy.
I remember when I brought Cameron home for the first time. The beginning of junior year, he brought me to this art show. He was a typical art student. I honestly had never stepped foot in an art museum and payed that much attention to the difference between porcelain and glass in the ceramic exhibit. I happened to have payed so much attention that we stayed until really late... on a Thursday night. It was one of those days when my dad came to visit so he was there when I got home. I remember he was so mad that he almost slammed the door in Cam's face. Then Cameron used his gentle voice and assured my dad that I was safe and that we were only at the museum. It honestly worked like magic. Who would have thought that a year and a half later I would be right here again, having my parents meet my boyfriend.
I quickly shot all thoughts of Cameron out of my hand and connected eyes with Logan. We both smiled, he placed his hand down on my knee and we continued our back and forth banter with my parents. The conversation got slower and slower until all I could hear was the silverware clinking on the porcelain plates. Porcelain.
"I'm home!" I hear a familiar deep voice call out followed by a clunk of what might be a suitcase on the hardwood floor. My mother rose out of her chair and the footsteps became louder and clearer as they neared the doorway.
"Daniel." she spoke into his shoulder. His dark brown hair was up in his usual small quiff- looking perfect as usual. He's always been that guy who cares so much about their hair. As he pulled away from the hug, his golden-hazel eyes opened up wide and he flashed an even bigger smile.
He wrapped his arms around me and I was so incredibly happy to have him back. My head was nuzzled in his chest because of his tall height. "Hope. My god I wanted to be here so bad for your graduation and I heard you have a boyfriend..." He trailed off and pulled away, looking down at Logan. His gaze shifted up as Logan stood from his chair- still a bit shorter than Daniel. "...Who I need to set straight." He finished and shook Logan's hand. "Daniel." He flashed another friendly grin.
Logan had his awkward thin line of a smile on and it was adorable as ever. He shuffled back a little after shaking Daniel's hand. "My shirt, 'ey?" Daniel laughed and tugged on Logan's sleeve. He looked down at his chest and saw the navy blue Abercrombie logo on the grey T-shirt.
"Oh, it was a long night and-" Logan started to explain.
Daniel leaned close to Logan's ear and whispered, " I really Hope you're not sleeping with my little sister." and then stood back a little until i approached both of them.
"Danny..." I drifted off. "...don't be so hard on him, you don't need to worry." I smiled and looked up at both of them. "I think both of you will get along very very well."
They both let my statement sink in and Logan took his seat, Daniel taking the empty one at the end of the dark wooden table. He then filled up his empty plate and started to eat. I continued to eat, stabbing at the green beans which I have hated ever since I was a little kid. Clink. Clink. The sound of the impact of the silverware on the porcelain plates seemed to get louder.
"Mom, dad?" I blurted out. They both looked at me and raised their eyebrows.
"Yes?" They both said in unison.
"Okay, uh, so I think I maybe brought this up before but....I just graduated and Logan is only here for a couple of more days since he has to go finish filming. So I was wondering...can I fly out with him for a little while?" I bit my lower lip and felt Logan's hand rest on my knee under the table. Daniel brought his gaze up from his plate and set down his fork and knife, sitting back in his chair with a smirk forming on his face. He crossed his arms, eager to see what our parents would say.
Logan stayed quiet and waited patiently for their reply. His thumb traced small circles onto the side of my knee softly and I continued to wait for an answer.
"Well..." My dad started to say. "I think it's your mother's choice." he put both hands up. "But I like Logan, and I feel comfortable with you spending more time with him."
Daniel's jaw dropped and his smirk disappeared. "Wow." He mumbled under his breath and shook his head.
"Dan, shutup. It's not your place to talk here...you literally just walked through the door." I said with an attitude. He stopped shaking his head and looked back up, still engaged in the conversation.
"I think it would be a good experience for you to see what it's like in California. You're going to school there anyway, so you need to know the area." My mom smiled and finished.
"So its a yes...?" I asked, anxiously.
"Yes." She replied back and I literally jumped out of my seat and hugged Logan. Finally, I'll get some alone time with him...and I'll get to see what it's like in Cali.
