I walked through the front doors and into the hallway. My eyes stayed glued to the ground as I heard the whispers around me. I hated how everyone was making a huge deal about it... it's my problem. First period was English. I actually enjoyed english. Writing is one of the things I love to do. I'd love to be an author some day. Throughout the day I had occasional short conversations about homework. I tried avoiding conversations about the accident. Lunch came and I sat with Marley, my best friend since forever. Danielle also sat with us, I've known her since middle school. We talked about biology, which we all have next.
"Do you guys want to go to Starbucks later?" Danielle asked.
"Yeah, what time?" Marley asked.
"I want to go but can can I meet you guys there around 4? I have something right after school I have to do." I said.
"Yeah, we'll wait for you. It's fine." Marley smiled. Marley and I are so close, she can almost read my mind it's crazy. She always knows when something's bothering me. The bell rang and we all made our way to class. The rest of the day went by pretty quick since I was thinking about the meeting after school. It's the only way I can get my feelings out.
Riiiiiinngggg.
I walked through the halls and into the school library. The chairs were already set up into a small circle. I sat down and watched them all fill in. There were all different types of people in here. It was diverse and some of the people you would least expect to be in here were. When I first came, it was like that. Nobody knew about the... accident yet.
"So, let's go around and announce each of our progress over this month." Mr. Laws announced.
Everyone spoke with all the attention on them. It was calm and there was no judgement. I was proud of everyone else but I don't know if could say the same for me. It was my turn.
"Well, I've still been thinking about the accident a lot but I've gotten back into social activities. I'm not blaming myself or anybody about anything. It was getting to a point where it was too hard and I couldn't function. So, that's really it." I forced a smile.
"Thank you, Hope." Mr. Laws said. He moved around the circle until we were all done. We had to list whet we are going to accomplish over the next month.
"I'm going to try to look up more. To see what's in front of me instead of what's behind me." I said. The boy across from me smiled at me and I smiled back. We exchanged looks a couple of times again until the meeting was over. I was in a rush to leave so I went straight to my car in the parking lot and drove to the starbucks.
I parked my car and walked up to the door. I went up to the counter and ordered a hot chocolate with extra whipped cream. I saw Marley and Danielle sitting at a table by the window and waved.
"Hot chocolate with extra whipped cream!" The barista called as she placed the drink down. I reached for it just as another hand did. I pulled my hand away. We both looked up and smiled.
"Oh, sorry." He ran his hand through his dark hair. "Since when did they stop calling names, huh?" He laughed. I laughed along and smiled. "Here." He smiled as he handed me the drink.
"Thank you so much. I appreciate it." I smiled.
"No problem. I'm Logan by the way." He put his hand out to shake.
I accepted and looked into his bright blue eyes. "Hope."
