I watched through the fire at Celina flanked on each side by her high guard. jealousy coiled threatening to choke me. I turned away with the need to get away from them and calm myself and my wolf down. Today had tested all of our limits. The atrocity that happen here is what I wanted to protect Celina from. The devastation that the rogue packs were leaving behind was horrendous. I watched as Celina steeled herself against the horrors before her and helped with gathering the bodies. When Celina found the bodies of the mutilated children in the basement, I saw her break. The killings of the children were always the hardest to stomach. I turned on my heel away from the others.
"Korin."
"Andrew."
"Don't take it personal."
"What are you talking about?"
Andrew motion over his shoulder towards Celina. "They are really worried about her."
"I know that."
"Do you?"
"Of course. Is there a point to this talk?"
"Just wanted to let you know that you don't have to feel jealous. They are at a loss without their connection to her."
"And how do you know that?"
"I have been living with them for the past month. Trust me, I know."
I rubbed my hands up and down my face letting out an exasperated sigh. "I know it just, I'm an alpha. It is hard letting others, especially males, to be so close to her. I'm her mate, it's my job to protect her. It takes a lot to control my wolf. He wants to tear apart anyone who gets close to her. I don't know how the royals can do this, share their mate with their high guard."
"How was Keagan and the others dealing with relocating again?"
"Glad to move to a camp with more permanent structures. Celina guaranteed that it was very isolated and will provide better safety for the families."
"I'm glad to hear it. Seeing how vicious the rogues have become has me worried about my family."
"If you still want to return to your family, Celina can give you the location."
"No. After what happened here today, I don't want to risk any of those rogues following us. We will stay." Andrew seemed pained but resolved with his decision to stay.
"Ok, we.."
Commotion back at the fire put me on alert. I sprinted around Andrew to get to Celina. Jules was screaming at Celina and Trevor was standing a few feet away gawking at Celina. My eyes drew to Celina and faltered a couple of steps coming to a halt by Trevor.
"What the hell did you do to her!" I accused Trevor.
"I didn't do anything to her! She was staring into the fire and we were talking to her..." Trevor trailed off and then glared off with a concentrated look on his face.
"And she turned into the devil right before our eyes. Shit, Celina are you in there?" Jules waved a hand in front of her eyes. No response, Celina eyes glowed a bright red which was unusual for wolves. What the hell was happening to her. Jules grasp Celina's shoulders and shook her slightly. "Celina?"
Celina body jerked and she turned back to the fire and let out a heart wrenching roar. She started to take a couple of steps towards the fire and that is when I sprung into action. I ran to stop her from scorching herself in the burning flames but she threw me off. Trevor broke out of his trance and tried to do the same but she easily shook him off too. She continue to walk towards the huge bonfire where the bodies melted in front of our eyes. I rushed back to her grabbing her from behind trying to pick her up and the others held onto her arms. We began to pull her away from the fire. We all felt a pulse generate from her body and she shook us off her again like rag dolls several feet away. I watch in horror as Celina reached the fire and held her arms out to the flames. The flames licked up her arms and I watched sprawled on the ground in amazement as her body seemed to be absorbing the flames. The others had gotten back up to their feet screaming and trying to grab hold of her again but the intense heat was too much for them.
