Chapter 15 - Hero

Lillyan's POV

Joey, Seto, and I each have twenty dice. That's three chances to save Atem. I tried getting Seto to oblige to Bakura's wishes, and when he refused, I tried convincing him to have Joey be the bait. But no, "ladies first", they said! Lord, help me to win this...

"Hand over the dice, I'll take you on."

I tossed the dice on the ground so that Bakura had to bend over to pick them up. "Kneel before the Priestess." I joked.

"Bakura, let the Pharaoh go!"

"Never! Once Osiris gives me his Puzzle, he shall spend eternity roaming the Shadow Realm!"

"Duel.."

Bakura set a monster and Destiny Board appeared, indicating the end of his turn. Oh boy...

I summoned Chocolate Magician Girl and attacked his face-down monster. But its Defense was higher than her Attack.

Bakura summoned a rather weak monster, but made up for its 700 Attack Points with Ectoplasmer, sending it to the Graveyard. Winged Minion's effect strengthens his other monster, and Chocolate Girl is destroyed. Ectoplasmer deals another 350 points of damage and Spirit Message "I" is played.

I stare at the cards in my hand. I'm at a loss. I closed my eyes tight, praying as hard as I could. And then...

"I need a hero to save me now... I need a hero. Save me now. I need a hero to save my life... A hero will save me just in time..."

Despite the situation he was in and the weight on my shoulders, Atem still believed I could do this. That I could win this Duel. That... I could... be his hero?... That tsundere!

"First, I set one card face-down. But I'm not done just yet! I'm using Dragonpulse Magician and Dragonpit Magician to set the Pendulum Scale! Return from the Great Beyond, Blue-Eyes White Dragon! Blue-Eyes, destroy his monster! White Lightning! I end my turn. Your move, Fluffy."

"Fluffy?"

So they haven't heard of the abridged series, good. "I guess I just haven't decided what to call you. I was trying to avoid "monster", as to not insult the cards, but doing so would be being "politically correct"..."

"...? Nevermind that." he set a monster face-down and ended his turn, signalling Spirit Message "N".

"I summon Wisdom-Eye Magician!" It's all I can do. Besides I need it for my face-down card. Well, all I can do except, "White Lightning!"

"Just give it up." Bakura said. "Even with the fifth Blue-Eyes White Dragon on the field, you're hopeless against my Destiny Board!" He turned to where Atem was hanging, "Where's your true God now, "Pharaoh"? Mwahahahahaha!!!"

I'm not one to be offended, but that's where the line gets crossed! "You monster! Reveal face-down, Berserker Soul!" And since my hand's empty, I have nothing to discard. "The first card, draw! I discard Winged Kuriboh! Wisdom-Eye Magician, additional attack!" It was a guilty pleasure to hear Bakura scream in pain.

"The second card, draw! Monster card!" Bakura's Life Points dropped to zero, but I kept going. "Draw, monster card!"

This went on for about two minutes. But it wasn't enough. "Draw, monster— !"

"Sis, stop it already!" Seto scolded as he tried to pull me away, but I wouldn't budge.

"Let go of me!" I protested.

"His Life Points hit zero, you win."

I chuckled, my eyes in a shroud. "I thought you knew me, brother. In this world... what he said is just UNFORGIVABLE! Monster card!"

The screams of a demon. Music to my ears...

"Draw, monster card!" I guess today just isn't your day!

"Draw--" It must be a sign...

"Is it over?..." Bakura asked, weakly.

I nodded. "Magic card..." I revealed the card I drew. Monster Reborn...

"Oh, thank God, she drew a Spell card!" he exclaimed.

That caught my ear. "How can you thank Someone... if They don't exist?..."

Joey undid Atem's shackles and he jumped into Seto arms. Atem turned to Bakura. "My hero." he joked.

I left Bakura on the ground to think over his actions. "Don't die just yet, for it will never be enough....."
