When the light faded, I found myself in the palace courtyard by the lake. I looked into the water at my reflection, I was wearing the same clothes as Yugi in The Purest Temple. It was night, looked like dusk had just passed. What's going on? Is this what Adia looked like? If I am one of Atem's concubines, why am I out here and not facing a nine-month death?
Hearing footsteps, I was soon alert as to why. One of the High Priests was coming for me. But were they friend or foe? Mahad stepped out from the shadows. "Adia, what are you doing here?"
So, I am the Nameless Pharaoh's concubine. But she was Hebrew. "What do you think? The duties of a concubine shall never be mine to uphold."
"I understand that you must carry on the ancient traditions of your people, but so must the Pharaoh. I am doing all that I can to have you freed, but until then, you must do what you can to maintain the current state of your body."
Wait, he's friend?
"I'll lead you back to his room. If anyone asks, I'll say you got lost again." he said, placing his hand on my back. When we get to Atem's room, he's getting a real good mutt-slapping!
Mahad sighed and walked away as I closed the bedroom door behind me. Atem turned to me, nervous. "Y-you do understand your duties as my concubine?"
I nodded.
"I was hoping you wouldn't find out. But, better to get it over with, right? I understand that in no way will you accept your duties, but can we at least keep up an act? Sil vous plîat?"
I smirked. "Do you even know what that means?"
"Isn't is 'please'?"
"Yes. However, the literal translation is, 'if it pleases you'. You should know already that my duties as your concubine do not please me."
