Atem and I went back first thing in the morning and predictably, yet still to my surprise, he and Seto locked eyes and gave each other the death glare. They both showed that same burning passion that drove them to try their best to win the Duel. Right off the bat? "What's going on?" I spoke up.
"Long story." Joey replied. "Which you don't have time to hear, 'cause they're gonna blow."
Joey and I dragged the boys home, having to use two different entrances to keep them apart. After they cooled off, I went to get some answers.
"Mokuba, what happened to our brother?" I scolded. "He's not normally that fiery, even against the Pharaoh."
"It was one of Ishizu's voicemails she left." he responded. "It sounded like she was explaining the situation where the Pharaoh would be released."
"That makes sense, he did want a rematch. Until Yugi won. Anyways, wouldn't hurt to call back and get some details. Thanks, Mokuba."
After a bit of browsing on the answering machines, I found Ishizu's phone number and called back. I had to get right to the point as soon as she picked up before one of us started making small talk. "What did you do? Why is my brother so jumpy?"
"I expected that out of him. I'm surprised you called for specifics. You're the one who wanted to complete the Pharaoh's memories, weren't you?"
"From what I remember, the gate must be the only entrance."
"Correct. But the gate can only open if the Pharaoh loses a Duel."
"And it must be a true loss, if I remember correctly. That's why Seto was acting up. ..... I'll see you in six hours..."
And right on the dot, we were where it all ended. Joey and I dragged the Duelists into position. "Aright, let's get dis ova with before they lose it."
"You wanted a rematch, Seto? You've got one." I teased.
"I will defeat you once and for all..."
"Kaiba, I will defeat you!"
"Duel"
Wattkid? Is he even trying? He's not supposed to lose on purpose!
My brother's not doing so hot, either. All he did was activate a spell and set a card, that's it. I'm worried he'll lose like he always does, because then Atem's memory will remain in pieces.
"I'm counting on you." Two direct attacks? I stand corrected. He's really trying.
"Watch closely." Don't tell me he's planning a comeback victory. At least he'll get what he wants. But there's still the chance of a direct attack next turn.
Well, Atem did summon another monster, but didn't attack. What's he up to? ...
"I'll play this. I Tribute Summon a monster!" Curse of Dragon? Methinks someone has a crush~! I mean, it makes sense. After all, it's the only yoai pairing in the series that works.
Seto's got him setting monsters, he might just pull this off.
Blackland Fire Dragon. Let's see, 1500... and 2000 from Curse... Yup, he's got this in the bag.
"Now you will call me the King of Games!"
What was that, brother? "Over. My. Dead. Body!"
"Hm?"
"I-I mean, if I know you... and I do... you won't be satisfied winning just once..."
I take it he didn't need to respond. Ishizu was rushing us. "Don't worry about taking any of your comrades along."
"We'll have them take care of the gods from this side." Marik added.
This side? Side of what, exactly? Am I dying? Is this what going to hell feels like?!
Marik patted Atem's shoulder. "Good luck with her." Wait, what's that supposed to mean? I'm freakin' out right now!
Atem took my hand and dragged me through the gate. I was about to let go, but I couldn't. Am I in love? Nah, I can't be, he's far too masculine for my taste. "Like we always say, it's your move!" Just like the first time...
