Child of Hephaestus

°°°

You sat at the Hephaestus table, quietly, watching as Leo tinkered with whatever was in his hands at the time. The rest of the Hephaestus kids were eating, talking here and there. Though it seemed calm at the table, the other cabins could feel the excitement radiating from them.

You looked up from your dinner and glanced around the pavilion. While looking around at he other campers, you made eye contact with Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena.

Her cheeks flushed pink when she had noticed that you caught her staring. Before she turned away, you gave a small wave, that she returned immediately.

"Hey L/n!" Leo exclaimed, throwing a piece of his dinner at your head.

You turned to him and hummed, silently telling him to continue with what he was going to say.

"So we all decided that you're going to explain the hunt to everyone," He said, smiling in amusement when you choked on the piece of food that had been in your mouth.

Before you could complain, Chiron called for the attention of all the eating campers. It took a few minutes for everyone to quiet down but Chiron was known for his patience.

"Instead of the normal Easter egg hunt this year, the Hephaestus cabin has worked hard to bring us a new version that we will be using."

Once Chiron finished his announcement, the pavilion broke out into multiple whispers. Each cabin was discussing what they thought was going to happen. Knowing the Hephaestus cabin, many people were scared of whatever life-threatening thing they had cooked up.

Chiron stomped his hoof, trying to stay in control for a few more minutes. "It will be after lunch tomorrow and may last until dinner. Get a good night's sleep or you may very well regret it."

With the last of Chiron's words, the many campers started to leave the pavilion. They all seemed very excited for the next day.

Many campers, the Stolls especially, tried to bribe the Hephaestus cabin for information regarding the hunt. Luckily, you had the smart idea of leaving the area as quickly as you could. Only getting stopped by Jason, who had asked for some ibuprofen you kept on you for his 'killer headache'.

°°°

It was twenty minutes before curfew and you were sitting on Zeus' fist, looking up at the night sky. The trees rustled in the breeze and the moon and stars illuminated the area.

You were playing around with one of the bracelets on your wrist when someone approached you from below.

The flashlight in Annabeth's hands made her skin glow pink when she covered it to protect your eyes from the blinding light.

"What are you doing up so late?" She asked you, climbing on to the rock so she could sit beside you.

"I could ask you the same thing," You replied, focusing your attention on her and away from your wrist.

Annabeth shifted on the rock, discomfort showing on her face. Before she could defend herself, you jumped off the rock, bringing her down with you.

"You look tired," You stated, pulling Annabeth towards the path leading to the cabins.

Annabeth was glad that it was dark outside, save for the lampposts on the sides. Her cheeks were furiously pink from embarrassment. You were usually blunt but Annabeth never knew how to respond to it.
