| Sabrina's POV |
"Why do you love Ken? Sab" Heath asked unexpectedly.
Sabrina was taken aback. She knew she loved Ken but never put it into perspective. She knew she loved him because he was her boyfriend and she knew he loved her back. The question seemed more difficult to answer than it should but she tried to as honest as she could.
She couldn't help but wonder why Heath was asking her. His eyes looked hesitant and he was playing with his fingers the way he always did when he was feeling anxious and didn't want anyone to notice. But Sabrina always noticed.
"Why the question?" she asked.
"Just wondering. I'm happy for you," he responded. He half smiled and Sabrina got the feeling there was more he wanted to say but she didn't press him for it.
They said their goodbyes and went their seperate ways. That was the last time Sabrina saw or heard from Heath for the next two weeks. She texted him to come out once but he never replied and when she texted asking how he was a second time there was no response, so she gave up.
Zane
S: bby, let's get ice cream
Z: YAS HONEY
Z: I'll pick you up
Zane was outside Sabrina's house an hour after she texted him. They drove to their favorite ice cream shop, reliving the endless memories they shared from high school.
"God I love this place so much," Zane enunciated as he took a lick of his favorite mint chocolate.
Sabrina was enjoying her chocolate chip ice cream, and would reach over to lick from Zane's ice cream every so often. They had been doing it since high school and it just wasn't the same if they didn't share even when others gave them weird looks for it.
"I can't even remember specific moments here, they all kind of blur together because of how often we would come in here," Zane said attempting to remember.
"I remember when we got kicked out for about a month because we kept buying scoops on the same cones," Sabrina laughed and Zane joined.
"The three of us man, we were some trio huh," Zane reminisced on their friendship.
Sabrina felt a sting in the pit of her stomach thinking about Heath ignoring her suddenly.
"How's Heath?" she finally asked.
"He's good," was all Zane said.
"He's ignoring me," Sabrina blurted out.
"What? Heath? No baby, he's probably been busy," Zane nearly stuttered trying to get the words out.
"Don't make excuses for him, Zane,"
"Sab, I promise I'm not. I think he's just going through something right now," Zane gave her a sincere look.
Sabrina left it at that. She didn't want to press the matter more. It wasn't the first time Heath distanced himself but she always used to him talking to her about it. Well at least when they were in high school. They were adults now.
Ken
K: Sabrina, my love
K: I have reservations for us tonight
K: get dolled up and be ready by 6
K: love of your life, K
Later that night, Sabrina slipped into her favorite black, two-piece, sheer, long dress accompanied by her black laced Louis V red bottoms, Ken had gotten her for her birthday. When she was done with her make up Ken walked into the room, biting his lip as he eyed her up and down.
"You look amazing," he complimented her from the door. wearing his new grey Gucci fitted suit.
They left the house and arrived at one of the most expensive restaurants in the city. Sabrina had never been here but that was also because the waitlist to get a table was at least 3 months.
"Ken, how did you get us in here?" Sabrina whispered to Kam as they waited to be seated.
"I have my ways, Sabrina," he winked at her.
She held on tight to his arm as the hostess took them to a room in the back part of the restaurant. It was a private dim room with a small round table with seating for two.
"Your food will come shortly," the hostess excused himself after they took their seats.
"Ken, this is beautiful," Sabrina said as she looked around the room.
"Only the best for you," Ken smiled again. "I already pre-ordered us the chef's special, a bottle of their best champagne and a special mango flavored desert."
Sabrina was surprised at all the effort Ken had put into this dinner. He didn't even go all out for her birthday but this was still so lovely. Everything was perfect except she hated anything mango flavored but she wouldn't ruin the moment.
The house salad followed by the smoke baked, salmon with the corn medley entree were absolutely delicious. Before desert the waiter brought out two glasses of champagne and placed them in front of Ken and Sabrina. Sabrina went to cheer but Ken stopped her before she took a sip.
"I just want to say I love you, Sabrina Elliot. You've changed my life and splattered it with your bit of craziness that I can't help but love. You're one of a kind and I'm so lucky to have you. Cheers babe," he clinked their glasses.
Sabrina took a sip but was surprised when she saw a glistening item at the bottom of her glass.
"Oh my god," she whispered.
Ken took her glass and poured the rest of the champagne into his own glass leaving only the ring. He took his napkin and wiped it then went to get down on one knee.
"Sabrina Elliot, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?" he asked holding out the ring to her.
Sabrina didn't know what to do, and held a hand to her open mouth. She knew maybe this moment would come but she wasn't sure just how soon it would happen. They had been dating for a year and half but figured maybe if they made it to at least four years Ken would decide to pop the question then. She never expected it to happen now. Of course she loved him, but maybe this was too soon.
"Yes, yes baby!" She accepted his engagement.
Ken rose and picked her up into a hug kissing her and wiping away Sabrina's tears as they fell.
Sabrina was excited and scared altogether. Deep down she knew it was too soon but figured they could be engaged for another year and plan the wedding then. Things would work out. They always did.
When they got back to Sabrina's parents house they told them the news. Mr. and Mrs. Elliot jumped in excitement hugging and congratulating them. Mr. Elliot opened his oldest bottle of scotch for the occasion and cheered, praising and congratulating Sabrina for all of her accomplishments. He announced his excitement for this new stage in her life.
As they continued their celebration, there was a light knock at the door. Sabrina excused herself from the dining room and went toward the foyer. She didn't bother looking through the peep hole and when she opened the door she was surprised to see who it was.
"Heath, what are you doing here?" she asked in shock.
