| Heath's POV |
After meeting up with Sab, Heath wasn't sure of what he felt. He had mixed emotions because he knew Ken wasn't the right guy for her but he also couldn't bring himself to break her heart. It was Ken's responsibility to own up to his actions and be honest with the woman he claims to love. The woman he has no idea how lucky he is to have.
His drive home was quiet, no music, and no one to talk to him. Just him alone with his thoughts. He drove aimlessly before arriving at Zane's house. He walked in through the back door, the way he usually did because this was his second home. He made his way to the basement and threw himself face first onto the couch.
Zane came out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel. Nothing unusual as they had seen enough of each other already therefore nothing could ever be awkward for them again.
"Wanna get drunk?" Heath mumbled, face down on the couch.
"Yeah, I got some cold brews in the fridge," Zane replied walking into his room to change.
Heath wasted no time in taking out four beers from the fridge.
Zane came out a minute later throwing on the same tee and shorts he had on earlier. Heath handed him a beer.
"Cheers bro," Heath raised his bottle then downed it in a matter of seconds.
"Whoa, you good?" Zane asked.
"Did you get a text from Ken?" Heath avoided Zane's question.
Zane looked at his bottle then took a long swig before talking. "Yeah," he replied. "He wants to marry Sab." He said in a lower tone.
Heath nodded his head and opened his second bottle of beer. This one he took slower but even when he finished it, he wanted more. That's how the night continued beer after beer. And when there were no more, Zane snuck up to grab a bottle of vodka from his parent's cabinet.
"Have you ever been in love?" Heath slurred, barely keeping his eyes open.
"Only with you, baby. You know that," Zane was laid out on the floor while Heath was laying on his couch right above him.
"Aww, baby me too." Heath threw his hand down to touch Zane but couldn't quite reach him. "But like have you ever just loved someone you can't have? Someone you just know is the perfect person for you but you know you don't deserve them? Because they are just so special and amazing they deserve the entire world but you know you could never give it to them?"
"That's deep," Zane's voice was groggy from the drinking. "Baby, I'd be happy if you just buy me some cake right now to be honest," they laughed and eventually blacked out.
That black out felt almost permanent for the next two weeks. Heath had become somene he himself didn't recognize and somehow he didn't care. He enjoyed the feeling of not being himself and getting lost in the drinking. So much that his occasional cigarette became permanent.
Heath wanted to avoid thinking about anything else but being in the moment and even then he knew he'd forget it within hours when the alcohol took over his bloodstream. The music, partying, and the booze made him feel more alive than he had.
But Zane was worried. This wasn't like Heath, and Zane couldn't understand why he was acting like this. For as long as they'd known each other they shared everything even their darkest moments. But Heath wasn't talking to Zane and after their last night getting drunk together they hadn't so much as spoken two words to each other. It was like Heath was avoiding Zane but those two weeks was all it lasted.
It was three in the morning when Zane received a call from the local police precinct.
"Hello," he answered the phone.
